i must admit that when i started this thread i never thought that it would take off the way it has.
i am totally astonished at the awareness of our members, about 90% of the posers i set i would have no chance of solving.

Sometimes I have a rough idea then use Google StreetView to confirm my ideas. Is that cheating?

In that case popping round the corner to check would be cheating too?

will give a clue on this, rather topical.
the open golf is at royal st georges in sandwich in a few weeks.
8 years ago the event was held at the same course and this building in dover was associated with the event.

That seems along Folkestone Road, Howard, not far from your road.

No need to be so formal Howard.
Now with that clue and you telling Alex he is close, I will guess that its the former Mildmay Hotel. I will have to get up Folkestone Road to check though

correct mr dimmock, the reason i posted the pic was to underline that this was a 4 star hotel back in 2003, full of texans here for the golf.
i would imagine that its location didn't help bring in enough guests to survive, it was then being converted into flats.
suddenly it all stopped and as you can see decay has set in.
