-There is no such thing as 'good' as far as Forums go.
-You can think in terms of flowers, things that bloom er they die, or as a stroll about town;sometimes you meet nobody, sometimes you are in a hurry and can't stop, other times you stop and stop and have to do tomorrow all the things you were going to do 'today' plus that day's things as well.
Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.

i think keith answered his own question in the first line, variety is the most important thing in my view.
our best threads are the ones that feature the sea and all that goes on it and the various local wildlife sightings. local history is one of my favourites followed by local events. for those whose passion is politics we have barry's blog plus various other threads. town activity is always interesting with businesses opening and closing all the time and we now have an established market which was promoted well on here.

I posted an answer KB but deleted it as it might have been a little controversial for you and your censor may have thought the same.
Give you a clue though......the three defining words were, empty, noise and v---e---!
Now you work out my answer.

Do nothing and nothing happens.

I think we have been through this thread many times over;
My own personal opinion is I like the politics(no surprize there lol) but I also contribute to most other threads such as those that Howard mentions, plus many more.
I have passion on many subjects, but others give a contribution.
The variation and mixed subjects cater for most people.
I do find the politics thread the funniest when people start by saying,,,, Im not political but,,,,,,, then go on an on a lot of posts giving political statements, clearly having a political view, but of course it is all to make up a varied background of forumites as well.
On the forum you are able to contribute to whatever posts you like, but leave those that you feel you have no interest in
(again a number of forumites in the past have said I have no interest in politics, yet post many times on every or nearly all threads, if they didn't the politics posts would not be so popular.
Im for promoting the forum to be open, and have as many subjects as possible, together with encouraging as many people
as possible to contribute without putting them down.
I have always replied to comments by others on words they have used, and have been questioned on my reply yet they forget it was a reply to there own words., which sometimes they forget they have written lol
I think, maybe the thread should have been titled what don't you like about the forum,,,,,, but I suppose the other way round avoids a completely negative thread.
So to finish,, I will go there at the risk of more negative comments,,,,,,,
I don't like on the forum,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
The personal insults, just because some one may not share the same view
2; the general pushing people in a corner, when you would get more debate by allowing people to form views
whether or not as a poster you feel they are correct.
But all in all, looking at the other 2 forums compared to this one
I feel more at home on this one, its a good forum open debate
Long may it continue

Variety of views is all a good forum needs with interesting and informative posts.
Following on Keith's theme I do not like personal insults either or the repeated stirrings that leads to the childish bickering we get occasionally when posters obviously have complete contempt for each other.

Jan, I often liken this Forum to a trip to Howletts Zoo, lots of posturing and chest beating, but all harmless!

Lesley

, but I would add.......unless the 'animals' are let out of their cages and allowed to mix with each other.

Topics come and go on Dover Forum.
But some topics go round in circles.

What makes a good forum, well it is the same that makes a good football team. Darts team,or any kind of club etc it is their members if they good then you are on a winner anything is as good as the persons taking part.

The Forum would be better off without personal insults.
NB.By using personal insults shows deficiencies, the need to be in control,be superior and masks and deny
the users failures.

Yes there is no need for personal insults. I have taken it for some years now and at times found it hard to control myself when I meet up with person in real, but found it easy now that I am older I just walk away ,thing I would never had done when younger. But if you put yourself in the line of fire you will be shot at.
