Big campaign now started on the renovation of churche's where the cobbled together govt has slapped on an extra 20% V.A.T. which is likely to see man church projects of renovation not happen.
will be interesting to see how this one developes(or in the case of church's doesn't develope lol)

this is a rather unpleasant tax that puts in danger many of our historical buildings and will not bring a large sum to the exchequer.

Taxes on sales is a far better tax than tax on income.
That said, tax is only a necessary evil and all tax should be minimised.

Obviously a sales tax of some sort is required but the way VAT works is a nightmare for small businesses.

Church buildings should be maintained at the expense of the State.
They should also be allowed to have some land estates for farms. Some of the produce could be used for communion meals among the members of the congregations.
The New Testament explains that original Communion meals were proper meals, they were not pieces of bread. This becomes particularly clear in St. Paul's letter to the Corinthians, but the concept is even more evident in the Gospels of the four Evangelists.
Now that Christianity is officially the State Faith, as Eric Pickles has stressed, we will move in the right direction, possibly slowly, but gradually.

I'm not anti christian, like all faith's they have a role to play, but no more than any other faiths/beliefs/interests.
all whom should be treated equally or given as much time.
the danger of accepting only one faith is the right one is isolating others who may well also be right, or that very least should be heard.

Is this not simply a two-horse race. Taxes on renovation verses encouraging new-build. This will, rather horribly and predictably, result in increased pressure upon green-belt and leave the vacant-property problem where it is.
I am not sure why a charity exemption is not in place, but on the other hand we could see an increase in demand for taller ply-wood thermometers.

Keith, I was only expressing my view on a thread about churches and the State in regards to expenses. The phrase: "I am not an anti-Christian, but.... inevitably leads to a sermon of PC correctness. To be quite honest with you, Keith, I am not interested in other religions. Sorry mate
Brian, sometimes a diversion from politics politics politics is a breath of fresh air.
I had joined the group[ of forumites that is completely fed-up with politics politics politics politics politics ......
Usually my comments on politics is satire.
