A good book is "Royal Visitors at Dover" published by John Mowll in 1936, a surprising number of Royal have been to the town over the years.
Queen Victoria was also in Dover on 14th November 1842 when she went with the Prince Consort to Walmer Castle as a guest of the Duke of Wellington. They went by carriage (again at short notice to the town) to admire the views from the Castle, then down Castle Street , Bench Street, Snargate Street, along the seafront, Woolcomber Street and back up Castle Hill to a gun salute from the batteries
Been nice knowing you :)

Didn't she and Prince Albert visit the "Prince Albert" pub - not sure what it was called before her visit, but it changed its name afterwards.

Jan Worthington, a genealogist, who lives in Sydney, more recently helped trace Jason Donovan's "Who do you think you are", shown on TV.
We have known Jan for many years, through her research into the Worthingtons of Dover.

David Ennals, One of Dover best MP and a very nice person,i think he ended up a lord, Horold Wilson ,also a very godd talker and leader and not a bad PM for I think round about 13years . AH looking it up in my booknow Harold jAMES Willson.(Baron)born 1916, British Labour politician, born in Huddersfield.
He was president of the Board of Trade 1947-1951.In 1963 succeeded Gaitskill as Labour leader. He was prime minister 1964-1970. Formed a minority goverment in Feb 1974 and achieved a majority of three in Oct 1974.He resigned in 1976 and was succeeded By Mr Callaghan.
His premiership was dominated by the issue of UK admission to EEC membership. Knighted in 1976,and became a peer in 1983.

Going on from there and it is not in the book. Mr Wilson had a very hard time with a Mr Ian Smith then PM of Rhodesia and in talks on a warship Mt Smith made a unilateral declaration of independence away from Great Britain.avery long story of what happen next,so will stop there.
