I have said this time after time over many years ,why are they not using the PORT OF RAMSGATE IT IS ONLY A TEN MINS,DRIVE FROM THE AIRPORT OF MANSTON .THEY COULD EVEN PUT ONE OR TWO OF THE FERRY,S THAT USE DOVER, it would be much easer to run the ships into the port of Ramsgate and take the 1000s of lorrys now parked on the runway down into the port of Ramsgate then bring them all back along A roads to Dover some two hr Drive away. yes it will be a longer sea trip but not that long by doing this it would free up the roads round Dover. They do not have to go into the town like Dover they go via the tunnel to the port. If any of you know our MP or a member of the D.H.B. or a newspaper, just aske them WHY ARE WE NOT USING RAMSGATE when I worked down there we had 30,000tons ferrys coming on to the births the ferrys will fit onto their rollon and roll off birth thats why we made it that way .SO WAKE UP P&O AND THE OTHER FERRY COMPANYS ,DHB could rent the port or like I said years ago when I was a cllr buy it.

Where are you going to magic up ferries that fit Ramsgate harbour and crews for them?

Even if they could fit, which I very much doubt, by the time berthing trials were carried out the drivers would be even more p****d off with the unnecessary time wasted getting them home.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

I told you they do fit and the berthing would be needed but that would not take long as there is only two berths and it would only take a day or two for them trials. It can be done and now ,there are pilots over there to help in the berthing.

I believe Mr Wiggins provided chapter and verse on this some time ago. As for berth fit trials, it makes you wonder why alterations to and restrictions on the Dover fleet were/are necessary to get it to fit the smorgasbord of berths in the Eastern Docks.

Good Afternoon,
Have just joined as this subject is close to my heart with over 50 years in the freight industry at Manston, Ramsgate, Pegwell Bay (Hoverlloyd Freight Manager) and finally Dover.
I can say from deep experience of shipping and ferry operations that at least two of P&O ships currently laid up in Tilbury and the Fal without sufficient crew to man them fully, could use Ramsgate Ferry Terminal and with proper dredging the approach channel and turning circle would allow around the tide operation. I wrote to my Thanet South MP months ago on the subject, concerning Brexit and yesterday to Sir Roger Gale Thanet North MP as I was appalled at the growing situation in Dover, a place I have enjoyed since visiting the Prince of Wales Pier in the early 50's and jumping in the air at the sound of Lady Brassey's whistle as she moved away from her berth on the west side. So like Vic, it gives a clue to my age but my brain is not yet clueless, unlike some of our Government Officials who do not listen to those who know, from long and often painful experience.

DO not remove it sir, what you say is true but unlike myself they will not take an noice of what we say I worked in the port of Ramsgate for a very long time welding and fitting the new berths in and that new building for the H.G.V.S so they can be looked at before getting out on our rds. I was working there on the day 6 members of the public got killed it was and still is sad that happen it was on the part I was working on ,will not say anymore about that.

Even if it were possible for an event as sudden as this (which it isn't given the need for immediate crew and vessel availability), do you really think this government has the motivation or competence to organise such an ad hoc plan?

Vic Ramsgate is remembered for it’s live sheep export problems but with the way things are being ‘planned’ at present I think you may be:
