Here here Bern - people need pull together and make things happen like St James's and the Docks Development rather than pull it apart and object to everything , just cos they are a different 'colour'....
Been nice knowing you :)

Bern,I am sorry you think that way but it is not true,I am talking as a Dovorian Born and Bred in this town.I was saying all this before I was in UKIP.And would still be saying it even if I was not in any party.
This is about the Town which I love, all my family have moved away years ago and told me they would never return,But I do not give up,just like alot of others just keep trying to see it get better before I die I hope, but that is a very big if now.
I am not vote -catching ,I am on my soap box and I will not come off it sorry..

Paul (Scotchie) - the words of wisdom - at last.
Bern I agree - but I also think this forum is slowly but surely being turned into the Vic Matcham show anyway. It's common knowledge that I don't like the man but can you blame me? He makes a mockery of the adult contributers who talk sense, and I'm not just talking politics
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

I am sorry you think that way,but you are not the only one,but life goes on,and so do I for now anyway. But thank you for your post,a feedback good or bad is better then none.
Dover needs grown-ups at the front of the bus, and sadly we are a bit lacking in that department at the mo. But we can and will do better. Strong, intelligent, skilled, authoritative leadership and full networking is the order of the day. Can some of the current reps please shut the door on their way out?

Nice try, but it still doesn't get my vote.

Keep trying!!

I like that one Bern,as you know I never give up on trying, but it is true us men do make a mess up of things at times and I for one would like to see more woman on the councils and taking a lead part why not.We have a very good mayor at this time and I hope she is there again next year.

OK just been to a meeting with the Full Council tomorrow so I can tell you more then,ASDA have pulled out and I am sure that Morrison's getting in first did not help them, but DTIZ has been going now for over 10 years and we seem to have got nowhere.Gwyn Prosser and leaders of the Labour Group will be meeting ASDA in London soon to see what or where it went wrong and to try and learn what lessons can be learnt.
The question is what has happened to the £300,000 that Asda have given to the Council on the 106 money(this is money that developers such as house builders and companies put in on new builds)
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

Frankly Vic is being Vic, unfortunately like others of all colours of the political spectrum on this forum it is all descending into puerile playground style politicking.
What Dover needs now is some unity from those of all political persuasions and those with no allegiance to work together and promote the best for the town.
The saving grace for all of the rest of us is once the election is formally called then Vic and the rest of them will have to moderate what they say otherwise young Mr B could find himself in trouble with the electoral authorities.

Phew! A grown-up voice in our midst! Well said yet again, Ross.

Andrew - one problem Ross' statement has, I quote: """What Dover needs now is some unity from those of all political persuasions and those with no allegiance to work together and promote the best for the town.""""
The different parties can each want the best for the Town and yet disagree. There is no such thing as one single 'best for the Town' that all can agree on. Matters are far too complex than that and the debate on what direction and what is best is an important one.
Take Whitfield and the housing issue, many will believe that this is the best thing for Dover in the long term while other will disagree, that is a honest debate.
So I am afraid that the suggestion, Ross, in that sentence is in itself purile.
Obviously it is of concern that ASDA have withdrawn, a sign of the economic times that this country is in.
What is of concern is the length of time resolving some of the existing property/land issues and if there is to be critisism then this must be placed on the Planning Dept for a lack of speed to resolve, other towns /cities have had major redevelopment and I am sure have had similar issues but seem to have resolved quicker.
The positive side is that , I assume, these property/land issues have been resolved and that the sight is on a "green light" to start quickly once a replacement partner for ASDA is found.
On this why not attempt to secure the "White Goods" application that was rejected by the council for its development at White Cliffs Business Park.
Or with adequate parking and easy access to A20/A2 the hospital (I joke).

Barry is right .I recall the Land Committee days it does take time to sort out leases and ownership problems .I have no doubt there were some no names who held out for the best cash reward .
Pat I sincerely hope that all stops will be pulled out to find a replacement anchor store .I trust at this very moment the regeneration team are making calls
I sincerely hope everyone will stop the blame and just be positive and push for quick action .
From the sidelines there is only so much I can do but I will challenge the Conservatives .
I expect there will be a bun fight tonight at Full Councill .I shall be out of it on my little holiday ..
Some years back I made a tentative enquiry to MGM to see if they would consider the DTIZ site for a casino hotel. I didn't take it very far, just enough to see if there an interest and, let's just say, MGM didn't tell me to take a long walk off a short pier.
Of course, the Government then did what we all knew it would do, go back on it's plan for 8 super-casinos and plump for one in the "safe-haven" of Blackpool. That effectively made any further discussion with MGM pointless.
But, if Dover wants a good hotel with conference facilties, cable car system, tourist attraction and employment at the DTIZ site, maybe we should look outside the box and think bigger.
Just a thought.

Pat - it was an incredible tangle of unaligned leases, underleases, sub-leases and so on.....a real mess going back to old pre-District days and it was those matters that meant a 20 year programme before anything had a chance.
