i thought their support would have been even higher but certainly enough to rock the boat of the main parties.

For the next general election ukip could offer the voters a deal.
If you vote in ukip you get withdrawal from the EU.
Then they recall the general election, so people can vote the party they support as normal.
A lend us your vote deal.

Some of their other policies I believe make sense too, not just Europe.

from what i have read most of their policies are in line with traditional blue views hence their gaining most of their votes from there but more importantly getting some activists.

Agreed roger.
But the deal would need to be what the country is being democratically denied by the 3 other parties.
I wonder haw many form members would vote ukip for a deal like that ?

europe is a great subject of discussion in pubs, on t.v. and on forums like this but is not uppermost in people's minds when they go out to vote.

That's already begun to change Howard. Europe will turn out to be THE biggest issue by 2015. The biggest danger in voting UKIP is that a LibLab coalition would ensue, and a worse result I cannot imagine. If Farage genuinely wants out he should tell Cameron he will only field candidates in constituencies where the Tory incumbent or prospective are not hard line eurosceptics. Alternatively, we need hundreds of sitting reds and blues to join UKIP; but then we end up with Farage as PM! Did I say I couldn't imagine a worse result?

Keith, before the next GE, the EU in/out referendum issue will come up big and massive. Many Labour supporters - albeit perhaps a minority - will want such referendum, we could be talking of millions of Labour supporters.
Enough for them to cast a significant vote for UKIP.
Expect surprises! As the GE approaches (it could even come before 2015 considering the Coalition is unstable), UKIP is likely to launch a massive campaign to attract support. Something unseen till now.
So no, Labour will not get a majority vote to enter government, unless they promised an EU in/out referendum.

alex
have to disagree with you and peter on the importance voters will place on the european issue, most of us will vote for our pocket as per usual.
secondly the government will last until may 2015 whether it is still cobbled together or not.

So if UKIP campaigned for an increased minimum wage policy too, that should be the answer, Howard!
Brian, are you suggesting UKIP is not a party??

the 3 major parties are not going for a referendum
UKIP will damage a few tories but probably not enough to win seats
then say like they did in the police commission elections, that they did well coming second and 3rd
coming 2nd and 3rd is losing

Any party has to start somewhere and UKIP seems to be doing rather well. Any new party is to be welcomed to give an alternative to lurching backwards and forwards between Conservatives and Labour, neither of which appear to be remotely competent.

Not sure if that is a step forward for UKIP there Howard, more a sweating brow observation from the Tories. They are beginning to realise that their re-election prospects are threadbare at best...an added blow is the news today that George Osborne's battle with the economic situation is not currently bearing fruit, seemingly they are now projecting austerity for a lot longer than originally anticipated. There goes the Election ! A confident top of their game Tory Party would never put out feelers like this kind of UKIP alignment. I have a feeling the higher echelons of the Conservative bastions will not be terribly happy, with traditionalists turning in their imaginary graves, with this being made public. Mr Cameron as far as I know has not commented on Fabricant's suggestion.
Nigel Farage...one time guest member of this forum, may even still be, was reported initially to warm to this idea but then it seems later on rubbished it. Havent heard the definitive response as of yet.
Nigel who talks a good fight, especially on Europe, is reportedly to be insisting on a full fledged referendum on the EU before agreeing to any kind of co-operation. Pigs might fly...
