An initiative originated by "The Candidate" whilst still a member of the Town Team has finally been completed.
The Town Wall Gallery as we are bumptious enough to call it, now displays some artwork that was painted by local people. Many of them were completed at the Street Art Festival back in June. Since then, we have been covering them in Yacht varnish for protection, but yesterday was the designated moment in time when myself, Trevor Bond and the brilliant John Angell were the assistants to the Tersons Maintenance man Jim, when these able masterpieces were positioned on the much discussed and sometimes pilloried "Welcome to Dover" hoardings on Town Wall Street.
Another small Town Team project completed.

Interesting will pop down to see for myself during the week, that looks remarkably like Kim IL-David in the top photo.

Sorry I couldn't be down there to help out Simon. Looking good. I'll have to pop past in the evening with the girls.

They certainly brighten the area.

I must be a Philistine - they remind me of Tony Hancock's The Rebel.

Went down to have a look the other day and thought these three were the best.

The last one wasn't too bad Howard, but like I said in a previous posting, all the others remind me of Tony Hancock's paintings in the film, The Rebel.

Many of them were done by young people of primary and early secondary school age Roger. Part of the idea of this project was to engage with this younger age group - something of theirs, that they had created placed in prominent location.

Same old story Neil you and I were there watching the kids do their painting and seeing the look of joy on their faces.
Its trendy in Dover to have a pop at those who give up their time voluntarily whilst sitting behind a keyboard carping.

Let us be honest most of them are not very good simply because they are done by youngsters, maybe if this had been explained on the display there might not have been negative comments. They are like the daubs that only friends and family say are lovely, like the things we all have on display at home because a family member did them.
Yes David, much like those who sit in their office carping about someone having an opinion and yes I am having a pop at you.

Very honest of you Roger,
philistine
ˈfɪlɪstʌɪn/
noun
1.
a person who is hostile or indifferent to culture and the arts.
"I am a complete philistine when it comes to paintings"
adjective
1.
hostile or indifferent to culture and the arts.
"a philistine government"
I think youngsters should be encouraged to show off their artistic talents despite some who view their efforts failing to understand them.
Tony Hancock? A great comedian who probably painted for laughs. The children's serious efforts should be applauded, who knows what it could lead to?
Do nothing and nothing happens.

THIS AREA still looks like a bomb side with M@S going in there in 2016 I do not think they will be ready in time and we will see the end of M@S in Dover ,
Sorry to say I do not agree that the painting are making it look better down there nothing wrong with them but it is where they are it looked better with just the painted fencing it all looks down beat which it is and have to say I give up with only going into town or round there unless I have to.Even if M@S site is ready I can not see them moving there unless what is round it looks nice .

My view of the paintings hasn't changed, but I didn't know they were done by children, I do not recall it being stated that they were painted by young people, so I am happy to apologise if it was felt I insulted young people's painting ability.
Would it not have been helpful if the paintings had either who painted them and their ages, or just the age of the painter.
There could also have been some good paintings by grown-ups - couldn't there ? Maybe a painting competition and the best 10 put up.
I wasn't moaning just for the sake of it - honest.

Instead of telling everyone what should be done Roger, why didn't you get off your arse and help out? You're very good at writing copious pages of theoretical, pompous evaluations, yet when it comes to the crunch you can't back it up with physical actions.
Get a grip, stop whinging and actually do something for the people of Dover whom you claim to represent.
Better still, retire from political life and let someone that actually gives a damn represent us.

Indeed Mark, as most of us know Roger has been involved in voluntary work, particularly in his ward for well over a decade, he chooses not to make a song and dance about it.

I got off my arse as you so eloquently put it and run the Dover Loyalty Scheme for two years; I had to pack it in as it was costing me too much money - I did not take any money from it.
I then worked on the Discover Dover leaflets for two/three years and had to stop doing that as the two major sponsors dropped out because their local marketing budget had been cut.
I was then the Business Support Manager for Dover Chamber of Commerrce (not as a volunteer I grant you) until I was unceremoniously and acrmoniously sacked with no reason given.
I then worked for the Channel Chamber as their Business Support Manager finding work-placements for young people and only stopped doing that, because Government funding ceased.
Those "copious pages of theoretical, pompous evaluations" as you call them (theTourism Strategy, the Plan of Action for Dover Town and how to run a successful street-market - something the Town Team have so far failed (miserably) to do), were very well received by Kent Tourism, DHB and the businesses and organisations mentioned in them and all gave good and worthwhile feedback.
The only people who ignored them, were the Town Council, the Town Team and WCCTA. I wonder why ? Well, I don't really wonder, as I have been told why.
When the Town Team was first initiated, I attended the first three meetings and was then told not to attend any more as I was a District Councillor and I didn't have a Town business, so I didn't - and haven't attended one since, apart from, I was invited to attend a meeting in Simon's office in Castle Street to talk about running a street market, but was put down by most of those present and I then received an email from David Little putting me down even futher and was included in Simon's insulting reply.
There was of course another District Councillor who continued to attend and she didn't have a town business - until fairly recently.
So don't tell me to get of my arse.
Roger
