I see that "Jaynes" (former fruit and veg, now sort of s/h goods) in the precinct has a closing down sale.
Also Santander in the precinct (remember the Salutation?) is closing and moving to the other branch in Cannon Street.
Days gone by, 1966 in fact:-

No jeans or leggings either but plenty of hats and sensible shoes.

The 'Sally' as it was known, was the second Salutation to have occupied a site in Biggin St, the first was built around the end of the 12th Cent, this one, number 2, was built in 1964 after the first one was removed to widen the road. It opened on 4th Sept '64 and closed 6th Dec '83' It was a Whitbread House. It then became a Pizza Hut, then the Bradford and Bingley BS.
I remember the back bar well!

As Mr W-B (who probably had a miss-spent youth) mentioned the other Salutation, I thought I ought to put up another of Bob Hollingsbee's pictures. He did say I could by the way! He gave a DVD a couple of years back for LRCF use.

It's not dated but I suspect more like late '30's or even post WW2 going by the names on the shops.

Just read through the thread and excellent news about the Kiddiwinks shop opening, I scoured the town yesterday looking for hat and mittens for a 1 year old and not one shop had anything, even M&S let me down! Will pop by this new shop. This was the first I had heard about it though

Also more Good News is that the 'Rack of Ale' has opened it's doors
Yesterday a choice of 3 local ales plus one from farther afield, Ripple Steam Black IPA, Titanic Mild (Staffs), Ripple Steam Best Bitter & Franklins English Garden. Also 3 Ciders available Medium Dry, Ginger Spice & Elderflower, plus Red, Rose & White wine
I wish Trish & Steve well in their new venture.
