09:1793109Lets hope that the benefit system is made fairer and simplier by assisting those who want to go back to work, helping those that can't and discourages scroungers from both home and abroad. I wish the govt well on this project and its massive undertaking.

09:2693112it's a big big subject, one that will take a lot of resolving, and it doesnt look like in the proposals they have gone far enough in some cases

10:1293118I could not agree more Marek. I wish any government luck with those scroungers that do not want to work. The ideal thing would be take their money away but the human rights brigade would protest.
I know two of them in one family unit, one is just lazy, the other blames his medical condition which requires two carers but he manages to go all around the town unaccompanied.

10:5593126had a brief look at the plans, first thing i noticed was the idea of stopping benefits to anyone who turns down 3 jobs.
doesn't mean anything, if someone is determined not to work then they will never be offered a job in the first place.

12:359314615 years ago when I was a nurse at Kent&Canterbury Hospital I was in Nursing for 28 years I Riped my spine after some time off went back to work but found it was getting harder to lift ,so I was told that I could leave on my own or they would have to let me go.So I left and went on the sick after fourteen weeks I was sent to see a DSS doctor who told me No Driving, No Lifting, No working in damp areas he said there is nothing really you can do anymore ,I begged for retraing four three years and was told I was to much of A liability no one would take me on so there is no help out there for people like me we are just left to rot. even now at 65 I still have the belief that somewhere I could do some sort of work.I started repairing Computers at home at no charge to any body so it would keep my mind Active but then someone told DSS I was running a business from home but I proved I was not,But thats the sort of thing we have to put up with when you live on state money. I get my state Pension in April so maybe I might find a part time job our Volunteer for something,Sorry about the Rant. By the way I did not get a penny for my back injury as i did not know at the time I could claim but the day after the 3 years was up union rep rang to ask how much i had got when i told him i had not claimed he rang off.maybe they were after a lump sum .

12:4993152You must have been so frustrated not getting the emlpoyment help you needed. Your union rep was not much use was he, he was the very person to tell you you should/could claim.
Your situation where you were wrongfully reported is why I have not reported the family I mentioned in my earlier post, I could have got my facts wrong.
Riverside might like your help as a volunteer. I know they run computer courses for the oldies there and I am sure they could use your skills.

13:0793159excellent post from alan showing the other side of the coin.
keith
the point i was making in post 4 is that there is a small hard core of people that have no intention of ever doing a day's work so that the three strikes and out idea is dead in the water.

08:3893264My point was that the rep knew about the problem or he/she would not have been able to ask about the compensation.
BTW I am not having a go at the unions or their reps, my husband was one many years ago for a short time.

20:3493390never had you down as a "fred kite" paul.
i can never forget the line from peter sellers as fred kite the shop steward, fondly speaking of the soviet union using that memorable line "all those cornfields and ballet in the evenings".

20:4993395Howard, you don't have to a socialist to believe in fairness & consistency to the workforce & protect the patient.
Interestingly it was the managers that got into trouble ,that mostly used my services after I roasted a few when they did not cover wards properly & tried to blame the Staff nurse or Ward Sister if a problem occurred.
I won many a case against managers [who were subsequently disciplined] because they failed to follow their own procedures.
Not many people know that.
