We have only been one day without post when we had the heaviest of snow (last Tuesday) every day other than that the postman has been here.

10:4983308The only postmen we have seen are the ones who drink in our bar.

10:5383310Milkman delivered next door on Friday more or less his usual time and the the paperman to other neighbours. I saw three mailmen walking up the road yesterday at about 11.00am, going home I assume, plus a couple of vans went past during the morning. No deliverery though.
My moan.

. Being in Salisbury Road I am just round the corner from the sorting office so find it annoying to say the least that my postman delivers the mail at around !.00pm. I can remember the first post being delivered at breakfast time and a second delivery around coffee time, so much for modernisation of the post office.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

11:3083316Milkmen and Newspaper boys have done their jobs brilliantly.
The Royal Mail have just given us a good reason for privatisation, maybe that will bring their service up to the standard of milk and newspapers....

12:4983322the post altered some time ago to the one post a day.
i used to get mine at 0800 now get it at 1pm or 2pm
doesnt worry me as i only get bills so can take as long as he/she wants.
royal mail used to be one of pride and passion but the uncertainty, and closure of offices and move towards privatisation has made the service worse rather than better

13:1283323Keith - the Post Office closures are seperate to Royal Mail and it is Royal Mail that your Labour government and now hopefully the present government want to privatise.
The worsening service either is nothing to do with preparing to privatise at all.

going by your theory of privatising the royal mail for failing to deliver, allied with the non delivery of my milk, this must mean that my milk lady will have her float nationalised first thing tomorrow morning.

19:4383361The postal service is a national disgrace. One delivery a day if you are lucky and none when the weather gets a bit iffy. The postman are allowed to dress worse than tramps, and before any postman gets on his high horse let me say I speak from experience. I was a postman in Canterbury 1963-1972
number 121.
Yes there were 2 regular deliveries a day and three in the business areas of towns. No first delivery finished later than 10.30 AM and second deliveries no later than 1300 hrs rural areas had a delivery same time as the towns in the morning and an afternoon delivery. It is not till one stops to analyze the post office services that one can fully appreciate just how bad they really are. unfortunately I can see no prospect of any improvment in the near or far distant future.
This is an experiance that I had
In april I posted a package to America, needless to say it did not arrive. When I claimed in May I received a letter telling me that it would take three months to investigate. In june I received another letter telling me that they (the American postal services) were unable to deliver my packet and that it would take (you've guessed it) three months to return it to me .
I heard nothing until the end of October when I asked what was happenning. Guess what?? another letter telling me that it would take three months to return my package.
I wrote back telling the post office that the slowest atlantic convoy took 17 days to cross the atlantic despite the U boats and yet in the twenty first century my package was going to take 84 days. needless to say I never saw my package again and I also had to threaten to sue through the small claims court for my insurance money which eventually arrived in November.
So if any one thinks there is any chance of the Post Office getting its act together forget it.

19:4883363i have had a totally different experience of our post persons than you jimmy.
just for example i have lived in dover for over 8 years and the last 2 days are the first that i have either recieved post or seen the deliverer.
ask anyone from abroad what they think of our service they will always say that ours is miles ahead of the service in their own country.
many businesses in europe use courier services for their mail costing a lot more, but they have no confidence in the state postal system.

19:5883365Howard,
Exactly my point . Are we hell bent in this country of emulating the disgraceful standards of our so called european brothers??
Surely after nearly 40 years of the european union, lessons would have been learnt.
Makes me glad I am an imperialist, bugger the EU!!

19:5983367barryw hate to disagree but i will!!!
your right post offices are now seperate from the royal mail and thats all part of the worsening of services by splitting them up of the post office service in general.
i try not to judge people by appearance so on postmen/women dress i wont comment.
have to say i send parcels to singapore and not had a problem to date.

20:0383368howard, it seems like we have the same milkman,if so she lives up my way.so her day starts by leaving aycliffe at stupid o clock driving up to broadstairs loading cart then driving back to good old dover for delivery.

20:0483369Keith,
Perhaps I did not make my point clearly enough. When I was a postman dressing like a tramp was not an option. One had to be dressed in an acceptible manner I.E. smartly dressed, no choices!!

20:4383374they dress for comfort. all power to them.
being a post person in dover needs the qualities of a mountain climber, even if the road is flat you can guarantee there will be steps up or down to the front door.
the other day our one was delivering in a blizzard, going past him i commented" you didn't say that you were planning to dye your hair blonde".
i did not wait for a reply.

00:1483397My mum was saying today that she has not had any post since Wednesday, but she was getting her papers delivered and she lives in Deal - so is it a district thing - rather than a town thing - NO POST.
I haven't had post here since Tuesday - poor postman who has to do the next round, that will be a mighty sack he will have to carry
