This morning yet again I found a man trying the doors to the locked toilets along the seafront. He stopped me as I walked by and asked what time they opened!!
I told him that I had no idea and pointed to the beach (he wasn't english), so as I walked off, I saw him not walk to the beach but walk to the shelter. He stood in there and let it all out! There is some sort of damage there at the moment, loose guttering or whatever with a load of Police warning tape all over it, but I guess he was desperate as it didn't stop him. There is no surprise therefore, that when it's hot like this, it smells. Please, someone unlock those toilets, its like having a car and no keys!

I've checked the websites of DDC and DTC and the facility is not mentioned on either Lewis, Googled Pebbles CIC and it comes up page not found.

I wonder who has a key then, probably nobody!!!
Really, it's quite ridiculous though.

Are these the ones that Ross and I think it is our new mayor have/had an interest in?

This is a ridiculous situation where the whole sea front on a summer's day has no toilets because one person is sick. DDC who employ a business to open up/lock up and and keep them reasonably clean should be running them in the same way as they run the others in this link. As for opening mid-morning!!

Going by the number of DDC run toilets in Deal (7) as opposed to Dover (3) no wonder so many Dovorians think we are a forgotten town in comparison to our neighbour.
Maybe we have stronger bladders.

Much more important to have beach huts in St. Margarets.

DHB provide toilets at the other end of the prom - opposite the sea sports centre

I thought those were for people working on the DWDR project.

Perhaps some folks in Sierra Leone or the Congo can club together to raise £60 for DDC:

Let’s put Deal & Walmer toilets into perspective. They are funded by the Town & Parish Council as are others in rural areas. DDC contractor opens ,closes & clean them.
Dover Town Council decided they would go their own way & put up various solutions ,which are working or not. DDC capital funded a considerable amount for the CIC scheme DTC set up for the seafront toilets . As far as I am aware DDC land & substantial capital funding is in place to provide the DTC scheme for Maision Dieu car park area ,again another proposed DTC CIC scheme.

Regardless of who is responsible

, in the mean time we all cross our legs or buy incontinence pads while we wait for more public easily accessible toilets here in Dover.
The toilets by the DTC building should not have been closed until the new ones in Maison Dieu car park were built, but that is far to logical for whoever was in charge of them to have realised.

I fully agree with Jan, regardless of who is responsible we should always have toilets to use. On the seafront, we have toilets that are sometimes available, it's too 'hit and miss' I think. Like I said earlier, it's like having a car on the drive but without the keys! Surely the DTC should audit whoever it is that manages these loos to ensure they are doing what they say they would do?

DTC are only in the Community toilet scheme Lewis which means you can use the ones in the Bull pub without needing to buy anything there. The ones run by DDC open and close they are supposed to. The one on the front is run by a community interest company as is a new one planned in town. Surely things would work better if one body ran them all except for the villages who seem to run them without problems.

Not sure on this but I think I read somewhere that the Bull has left that scheme due to some problem.
If I was caught short I would ask if I could use those in the Riverside Centre as they will be suitable for the disabled.

My understanding is that you don't need to ask Jan, I was told that anyone over 55 could walk in off the street and use the facilities, there is no membership issue.
