A positive move and with three government ministers including the Chancellor at the site yesterday, they have clearly invested a lot of political capital in making things happen. We also shouldn't underestimate the significance of the flood defences, as this would have been one of the major stumbling blocks for potential investors. Let's hope the momentum is maintained and that we start to see the "green shoots of recovery" in East Kent.

The trouble with flood defences ,as Lewes found out, is that in an attempt to control the river/sea it stops the normal ebb and flow of the tide. So that when the sea/river walls are breached the water rushes into the towns and villages and then stays there as it has no means of escape. The defences built to keep it out only result in keeping the water in...Funny enough the only place in Lewes that didn't flood was the monastery built in the Middle Ages. They weren't daft.
Unitl we stop building on flood plains the problem is going to grow. That's what the plains are for...flooding.

Enterprise zones were also brought in during the Thatcher 80`s and the Major 90`s.They were a profound failure.Post-mortem....An expensive way of moving jobs about the country. No new jobs produced.Osbourne says the zones are a critical part of his growth strategy!!!!Desperate bid to kick start a stagnant, flat lining economy.Last chance saloon?

No they were not at all. That was a period of a huge influx in inward investment much of it went into these enterprise zones.
You will of course acknowledge the truth that in that period manufacturing in the UK increased while in those 13 wasted Labour years to 2010 it fell.

trouble is reg, whilst we wait, more people become poorer, more people struggle to survive, more people find it hard to even find the basic meal.
soup kitchens get more people attending.
the future looks bleak
