Hi Guys, I volunteer for BADA-UK a small self funded charity that raises awareness about Ticks and the diseases they carry, mainly Lyme Disease. We run Tick Bite Prevention Week (TBPW) each year, to give out the correct information so more people are Tick aware. We don't scare monger, or invent statistics.....and at the moment the national average is that 1 in 3 ticks are infected with Lyme Disease. I see from some of your comments that some of you have come across ticks before....I came across BADA when my husband found out he had Lyme (after talking to a volunteer), they helped him very much...sadly he had gone 10 years before being diagnosed...so he has had his life altered in many ways....We go round as many different shows as we can over the country, speaking to many different types of fowk about ticks....
One of the most important things is how you remove the tick...I see that some of you have mentioned putting Vaseline or alcohol over a tick to remove it.....this doesn't work...when I tick feels threatened it's defence mechanism is to regurgitate it's gut contents into it's host be that you or your pet....and then they back out....so yes smothering/burning/freezing etc does get them to back out...but the damage has already been done....below is a link to show you have to safely remove them

Below is our blurb with other bits of information for you...please visit our website, I guarantee that everyone of you will learn something new.....and this week we now have backing from the Health Protection Agency (HPA) which is a massive thing for us, and we have worked very hard for our good name, we make sure that we only give out best practise information, and only sell products that have been proven to work. If you have any questions please feel free to ask, I will try to answer than asap...thanks for your time
Ticks can carry harmful infections that can be transmitted to humans. It is estimated that each year around 3,000 people in the UK contract Lyme disease (Borreliosis) from a tick bite.*
If you take part in outdoor activities or simply enjoy being in the countryside, or parks and gardens where wildlife is present, you may be at risk from tick bites. In fact, research from the School of Biological Sciences, University of Bristol, published in January 2012, suggests that the prevalence of Lyme disease bacteria in the UK tick population is considerably higher than most recent estimates indicated.
Tick Bite Prevention Week, supported by Mosi-guard Natural™, runs from 26 March-1 April 2012, and is an annual programme that helps promote awareness of tick-borne diseases and effective tick-bite prevention for at-risk groups, including pet owners and their animals.
Don't panic but be 'Tick Aware'!
Simple precautions can help to keep you safe. The campaign's Patron, Bushcraft and Survival expert Ray Mears, shares his Top Tips that can be taken to help prevent ticks from biting people and pets.
