17:0870594This Goverment is trying to get rid of the Royal ports, now turn on the Queen by saying there will not be a Queens Speech next year, are we now seeing the the run down of our own Queen and Royal family.will we still have a Queen or King in ten years time/,I did not think we would see this under a Blue Goverment ,we are moving more and more into the E.U.

17:2470598The newspaper today ,the headline is The Queen is silenced.
The Government yesterday said there will be no Queen,s Speech next year.
Commons leader Sir George Young said the next address, in which new legislation is outlined will be in May 2012.
Angry Labour MPs said ministers were trying to"grab power"by giving themselves more time to push through controversial measures.
I think that way to how low will this Government go before we go back to the polls.

18:2570615Vic - please dont be silly.
The government, unlike Labour's, is not one made up of a bunch of closet republicans who removed HMQ's picture from government offices (now restored in place...)
All that is being done is to change the timing of the State opening of Parliament to the spring, instead of it being in the Autumn and that means this will be a longer session of parliament. This is quite sensible, anyway given the heavy legislative burden laid out in the last Queens Speech it needs time to be enacted.
The next opening of Parliament will therefore be the spring of 2012 instead of the autumn of 2011, 6 months later.

19:0970637closet republicans barry?
i doubt that, most people don't give a thought about the monarchy nowadays.
the queen is seen as an excellent figurehead, behaves in a way befitting her position mostly.
the fact that she refuses to abdicate indicates that she has strong reservations about any of her family taking over.

20:4870664Elizabeth, as do all monarchs when being crowned, take an oath to serve the country and people for the rest of their life. She is abiding by that royal oath. I expect her to reign until death, she is of that character.
To suggest that she refused to abdicate, suggests she has been asked. Where is the evidence for this or is it just flippant tabloidism?
