21:069501i doubt that a newspaper would pay for such a story.
i do not think that the "SUN" would either.
pretty strong stuff to assume that our victor took a backhander.

21:149504howard it might be intresting to hear what vic has to say.mind you vic has been very quiet of late.
19 November 2008
21:219505Exactly Brian. I have now asked this same question on 2 local forums. Vic has been on both of them since my asking and yet has not responded.
Makes you wonder doesn't it??

21:289506yes it does mandie seems strange vic being this quiet.probly feeling guilty about it.
19 November 2008
21:349507Howard if the tabloids are prepared to pay for a picture then I am sure they would pay for the story.
Strange how Vic won't answer my question though

22:169508I agree with Mandie and Brian - if he has nothing to hide why not come on here and say so. Maybe he's playing for time while he thinks up a good story - maybe Graham taught him a few tricks!
Like you said Mandie - the Sun will pay for a story, that's how they earn a living lol
Keith has said in the past that Vic should save the money he loses standing for elections he knows he won't win - maybe he's a bit short.
The plot thickens .................
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

00:219515i get the impression that knives are being sharpened for our victor.
when he returns from his work duties, he will have an answer as usual.

08:219517To be honest I genuinely can't see what the fuss is about!! It's not a kiss n tell, no-ones humiliated or disadvantaged, it has created a bit of an opportunity for some publicity if we choose to big it up and turn it around with some good humour. It's a bit odd and has had some less advantageous effects but if we keep our balance and smile about it Dover could come out of it well..........

08:409519Yes as JHG says above the YOUR DOVER newspaper has great coverage of this story by Marijke Cox. It mentions Doverforum as its source a couple of times which is the fair way to do it and its appreciated around here. I had a copy of the story sent to me via email attachment by Town Clerk Mike Webb as I didnt get out and about yesterday...and yes the Town Council deny they were duped in any way.
YOUR DOVER couldnt get hold of Vic !

08:519522YourDover yesterday had a good rebuttal of the events surrounding this story and stated quite strongly that the Town Council did not pay out any ratepayers money.
I have heard from a couple of independant sources that it was Vic himself who broke this year-old story and begs a couple (or so) of questions - not, I hasten to add, accusations, just questions.
1) If, on the day that Paul Macartney and Brian May were due to show up and play in Dover and didn't, this guy gives a £1000 of his own money - WHY ??
2) Forgive the question Vic, but is it a case that you were embarrassed that they hadn't turned up and you gave this guy a £1000 of your own money to give to Charity ?
3) Then a year later, perhaps you thought "how am I going to get this £1000 back ?" and then sold the story to the Sun for an undisclosed sum ??
If the above is true, then it doesn't mean that you are dishonest Vic, just that you believed some joker who purports to be someone he isn't, then to extricate yourself and make him look good, give him a £1000 to give to Blackfish ?
If the above is close to the truth Vic, don't worry, no one feels ill towards you, but do let us know - put your hands up and say, O.K. Guv, it's a fair cop I dun it !!
By the way, how big was the (Sun's) cheque - can you retire now ??

08:519523Howard I do not have knives sharpened towards Vic at all.
I have asked a very plain straight forward question to which I would like a response. I do not see anything wrong in that at all.
Vic is someone who normally has plenty to say on most things but since I posted my question, all we have had is a stoney silence, and I KNOW he has been on here since I raised the question.
If Vic chooses not to reply unfortunatly us Joe public will make up our own minds as to whether he received payment, what his motive was to tell a year old story to the tabloids.
It's your choice whether you answer Vic, but sadly if you do not be up front and honest in what you have been asked.
Many people will draw their own conclusion.
Your call Vic

13:119538Whether Vic responds or no, on the basis of imperfect knowledge (ie gleaned from what's been published), I've drawn my interim conclusion.
But let's not speculate. And we're told there's no council malfeasance. Jolly good!
So ...
When's the Status Quo concert? Let's set those white cliffs a-rockin!

20:339574Us Joe Public have indeed made our minds up, based largely on the evidence we are able to assess who has and who hasn't a sense of humour and a sense of perspective. Useful and profound information........................
