Watching the lightning earlier on then at 02.56, the pitta patta of rain falling on the conservatory roof, and since then, I`ve been out there watching the awsome sight and sound of thunder and lightning. Well I like it anyway, and that distinct smell in the air of rain on dry ground. First proper rain since.........?
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

It woke me up too Colin. Quite spectacular. Looks like the hot weather is over...for the moment, but hopefully its not gone completely. Im not really a fan of 30+ degrees as it gets too hot, like it did at that seafront ceremony on saturday, way too hot, but a nice steady 25 does nicely.

We had 5 mins of rain here at 8am, I'm waiting for the rest! I like the heat but hate the humidity.

There you are Jeane thats what it was like in Dover last night...you can just make out the castle bracing it all...
HOWEVER the picture shown was NOT taken last night but was sent in many years ago by one of our readers. Im ashamed to say I dont remember who now. So, if you are out there let us know.
Interesting to note on further perusal of pic, the sheer scale of the lightning bolt in relation to the scale of the Castle. You can see how these bolts can do serious damage.

I did get all the washing dry yesterday, very hot.
Glad we won't have to water all the veg garden and pots tonight !!
Tubs almost overflowing now, thank goodness.
My 'giant pumpkin' growing fast but I read on a USA website re growing giant pumpkins each one should have 400-sq. ft of ground !!!
And each trailing branch should be allowed to root itself to create a multi-rooted system to feed the giants !!
Little hope of that space for mine!

Hi PaulB.
That lightning photo was taken by Ray Goodfellow from Doverferryphotos. He took it from his house up at Maxton - very good one too. I remember that storm very well - what a night that was!!!

There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".
