Watch David Cameron lay into the spoilsport council busybodies trying to stop street parties....
http://playpolitical.typepad.com/uk_conservative/2011/04/video-david-cameron-lists-the-ways-in-which-local-councils-are-frustrating-royal-wedding-street-part.html
He is effectively saying, ignore the Council...go ahead and have your party if you want to.... (wasnt that a song...)

good rhetoric, no guarantees that people will not get sued if an accident occurs.
all very similar to the government and the one previously telling us that it is ok to clear the snow outside our houses.

That is a very wimpish attitude Howard. He said ignore the idiots and I hope people will. Be great to infuriate the killjoys with lots of street parties going on in the face of council opposition. I have not heard of street party organisers locally having these problems though.
This government is committed to stopping the over the top and idiotic health and safety so loved by Labour - a report has been done and it is awaiting appropriate legislation. So this is more than rhetoric.

they are hidebound by red tape, has dave told them to scrap it?
i somehow doubt it.

I'm going to take DC's advice. I am going to ignore the idiots by going to the republic of France for the day.

He said that the health & safety brigade are to protect people at work rather than to penalise people at leisure. something with which I wholeheartedly agree.

I have a relative who works for the Health and Safety Executive as a field officer. He says the biggest problems with health and safety are the health and safety officers given that job in large organisations, they generally have little idea of doing anything other than following rules and covering their backs, which lets the big incidents happen.

quite right ray, but what will the p.m. do after the parties when all the claims from the professional accident prone come in?
i notice that our communities chap eric pickles has been conspicuous by his silence.

Howard - The whole point is that it is in the interpretation of the rules by SOME Councils. It is these over the top idiots that he is telling people to ignore and these are the ones who need jumping on and treated with contempt by the public.

I have today had to complain on this very topic ['topic'? that Colin gets everywhere ]to a high ranking officer at the Politburo of Camden Council which has rescinded it's promise to allow the closure of a street in Covent garden.
Luckily the organisers are determined that the party should go ahead anyway.
So let's hear it for Republic's 'Not the royal wedding' street party.

Question.
What would happen if you live in a quiet road and hold a street party without official permission. Unless there is a misery guts living there surely the party would be over before officialdom found out.

what your saying is correct, the problem is the climate has been created to get compensation, and report each other, and be miserable all your life,
it's ok saying we don't want this kind of society, who will stop the lawyers???

A woman trying to host a Royal wedding street party has been told she must take out £5million in public liability insurance.Hayley Mills, not sure if she is the actress daughter of John Mills, says she received a 30-point plan from Medway Council after she inquired about having a celebration in Rochester.
Other instructions included an order than bunting could not be strung any lower than 16ft 6in high because of health and safety risks.
The Prime Minister, furious at some local authorities making it difficult, told people to ignore the bureaucracy and start organising. He stressed that the only approval needed is permission to close a road and demanded that councils 'don't interfere'.But Mrs Mills dismissed his intervention, saying it 'sounds good' at Government level but is not filtering through to council officials.

MAREK;
That's the prob, it's great the PM saying it, but in reality faced with legal cra* are you going to bother
medway council has a big majority of the p.m. party so maybe the politicians should get involved and take this issue on
otherwise the officers run the day

keith is spot on in post 15, the prime minister can make bold statements to gain popularity but the ambulance chasing lawyers are still on the loose.
