Some women too, I find it outrageous that a public service broadcaster pays people such ridiculous amounts of money.

More stuff to put my blood pressure up. Not wishing to sound personal, but the top two, Evans and Lineker don't have an ounce of talent between them. Evans comes across as a juvenile halfwit, and Lineker as a snide 'head boy' type. Neither of them could hold down a real job in the real world. I know Lineker was a footballer, but he isn't anymore.
The rest of the list, with a few exceptions, are hardly any better, what a waste of my money !!

99% of BBC "stars" are "stars" because they are on our TV, not because they are particularly talented.

Gary Lineker mainly hosts a late night edited highlights football programme and explains to us what we have just seen for ourselves then walks away with £1.7 million. Andrew Marr is very good at what he does but at the end of the day is not worth a quarter of that salary in my view. Don't get me started on the bloke who does the DIY programme.

This actually makes me feel sorry for MPs, not all of whom (I suspect) are charlatans and several of whom are darn good actors. Theresa May, for example, must be as batty as a box of frogs; she's only marginally younger than I am, but instead of putting her feet up, there she is doing a stressful job for less money than people reading teleprompters and certain in the knowledge that, whatever "it" is, she'll be blamed and bad-mouthed for it. I mean, who needs that kind of grief?

News Thump sum it all up rather nicely.
Everyone has decided to grit their teeth and make an attempt to listen to Chris Evans’ Radio 2 breakfast show to try and get some semblance of value for money after the revelation of his £2.2million pay packet. The Chris Evans Breakfast show runs from 6.30 to 9.30 on weekdays and is currently enjoyed by both morons and idiots alike.
“Well, I mean, I don’t want to listen to Chris Evans,” said Simon Williams, a normal human being.“But it does seem like a fairly sizable chunk of my licence fee is going over to him, so I should probably try and get my money’s worth.“I’ll start tomorrow. No, Monday. Give myself a few days to get used to the idea.”
Mr Williams that his family were initially resistant.
“That’s right, my girl likes Shaun Keveney hilariously pretending to not be a very good DJ on 6music, and my young lad likes to spend the morning watching hardcore pornography on his smartphone. “I’ve told them, when it’s their money going towards Chris Evans’ celebrity lifestyle, they can choose who to listen to, but when it’s my money then they’ll listen to him whether they like it or not.”
Chris Evans is currently running a week long feature entitled ‘Haribos or Smarties,’ in which people tell Chris whether they prefer Haribos or Smarties.

Well done to them for making a good living. Also they get paid all this money and there is some moaning in this thread.... I see there isn't any figures about the amount they give away.

Market rates.... after all this is a capitalist market economy at work.

That's the problem Ross, it isn't market rates, the people who fund these ridiculous salaries don't really get any say in the matter.
The BBC is now far from being a bastion of anything. In recent years they have dumbed their programmes down to such a level that you could almost be watching Channel 5 in some circumstances. Their are a few jewels left in their broadcasting crown, none of which are Chris Evans, and please remember the fact that they have censored the word 'Palestine' from their airwaves. Not a salary I have to admit, but another thing that we can do nothing about.

I've said for years its time to scrap the compulsory licence fee, if you want to watch BBC fine, if not, don't pay the fee and let them encrypt the channels.
Then we'll see market forces in action, at the moment its coercion, pay the fee or go to jail.

However good or popular a person is they are not worth the outrageous salaries some of these people are getting.
£2.2 million plus for simply waffling into a microphone while playing a few records early morning is a ridiculous amount. Having said that I do not think publishing these figures was the right thing to do.
As an aside did I notice a different atmosphere between Charlie and Naga on the Breakfast sofa this morning? She makes that list but he does not

The problem with the BBC is that is doesn't see itself as a public broadcaster. I recall the last review they did, and they came out with all sorts of grand statements about how good they were, and what good value they were, compared with Google, Netflix, Microsoft etc. That they felt the need to measure themselves against these organizations rather than the likes of RAI, ARD/ZDF, RTE, ORF and all the other state broadcasters out there tells you everything you need to know....

I can never work out why they need so much money since they stopped paying for major sporting events like Premier league football, Test Cricket and the one day internationals, now even the Open golf has gone to the highest bidder leaving Wimbledon as their last major event.

If the BBC's TV is bad it's because it's chased the ratings of commercial channels by aping them rather than standing up for distinction. Its news is fine, its documentaries are largely bland and unimaginative, with the odd exception, and as far as drama is concerned it lost its nerve in the 80s, soon after it produced its last great piece of work, The Singing Detective.
But I am happy to pay my my licence fee just to keep the BBC out of the grubby, sweaty palms of the world's Murdochs. That doesn't mean I'm happy that it ends up funding Evans' fleet of classic cars rather than producing programming of quality. But that's the commercial, competitive imperative at work: instead, the BBC should be setting the standard.
Its radio, though, has to be the best in the world, and that's just 3 and 4.

While I agree Evans' salary is ridiculous he does raise millions for charity each year through his carfest North and South and other works.
He's a huge donater and supporter of children in need and children's trust amongst others.

Wow Reginald ! That's a bit of a back handed compliment if there ever was one. I remember another overpaid BBC radio and TV presenter who raised millions for charity. In his case, the licence fees helped to fund his paedophilia.
