I know Roger is working on this one, so thought I`d give it it`s own little posting. It would be appropriate if these fruit and veg stalls could be in the Market Square itself. A little out of place where they are. Took these this morning. Big banana`s as well as the normal size. The lady below, kindly posed while I immortilised her on digital. Thank you if you`re looking in. I did mention the forum to her. Note the pavement artist in the foreground.

I chatted to this chap for about 10 minutes lunchtime today, who seemed quite intelligent, and had done artistic work around Folkestone, Deal, Margate amongst other`s, and was currently trying to get onto an art course. Showed alot of interest when I spoke of the shops being painted up.

The lady who posed for you is none other than the lovely Julia Benstead, our very own Deputy Town Clerk! Quite a catch!
True friends stab you in the front.

If I am successful in bringing a proper market to Dover, I would ask the current fruit and veg. people if they are happy where they are, or prefer another location, perhaps in the Square itself, or further up Cannon Street.
It looks like planning permission may be required, which will delay it somewhat, but if all goes well, it could be May.

Thank you for that Andy, I feel very honoured. The only famous person I`ve ever met in Dover is Howard. (I met Vic in Whitfield). .........Hope all goes well Roger, and I`ve removed the `former` wording from any posting`s on the Market Square, as I have great confidence that all will go well. Look forward to seeing something happen.

Walking about town this morning, I remembered this picture I took last Saturday of the `Napolatana`Italian restaurant. Next door to Mandy`s Tearooms, it always looks clean and colourful, but never heard any comment`t on it. There is a notice on the window of a shutdown from Christmas till 1st March, and all the table`s inside are still laid out. The Christmas tree is languishing in the front of the restaurant, complete with merry christmas greeting sticker`s on the window`s. Bit like the `Mary Celeste` in there.

I confess to not even knowing this place existed, and maybe that tells a story too. If you want customers you have to go and get them, particularly in Dover where there are more restaurants/take-aways than people to use them.

That Napolatana was/is owned by the same guy who owns La Via Romana Italian restaurant.
It used to be Amigos Mexican restaurant but that didn't last long either.
I'm not going to say anything negative about it, but there's nothing positive I can say either.
The owner says he has given up on Dover people as they don't now go in there - I wonder why ?

heard so many different reports on the mexican one, some said the portions were ok, others said they were childrens portions.
someone else said that they were charge extra for a blob of ice cream on their apple pie.
trouble also in that there is hardly any passing trade during the evening.aa

20:2569014 Didn`t want to start another thread on the Market Square, so dug this one up again. This particular bus was withdrawn in 1962.

Was this when they demolished the old Westminster Bank? Anyone know?
And was it the old St Martin le Grand burials?
