Always good news that a pub is re-opening.
If only a few of our rural ones would re-appear - for example the Blazing Donkey, Butcher's Arms, The Chequers at Hougham, the High and Dry - all closed, to name a few.
Thus does the social fabric unravel and we retreat to our caves to sup supermarket loss leaders. Sad.

are we sure that it is reopening as a pub?
not seen anything on the planning website but looks prime to be converted into flats.

Pubs rely on footfall that is why rural pubs have suffered so badly.
Sadly times have changed 'yoof' no longer seem to want a traditional pub they want an entertainment area where they can get p****d as fast as possible, so anywhere without a large floor area could have a problem.

Regarding The Chequers at Hougham, it's now got 4 or 5 houses on the old site of the pub.

I understood the Blazing Donkey was some kind of hotel now rather than a bona fide pub. If not, I look forward to a visit.

I remember the Blazing Donkey when it was an old fashioned pub,you sat in the lounge and the landlord and his wife sat in the kichen and when you asked for a Brown Ale they had to wipe the bottle top to see what colour it was,and the Landlord had Parkinson's disease and lost half of your drink when he poured it into the glass, through the door way which was a stable door.It was the only pub locally I could get served in because the village Bobby in Eastry knew my age.I also got beaten up there as my girlfriend asked one night if she could go for a drink with a friend,I followed them up and back, went round a blind corner where the street light was off and go thumped.

So according to the website it's not a pub any more, in the sense that I remember it, anyway, but an elitist hotel/wedding venue/base for golfing jaunts. All for the wealthy. Hateful.

Why is that hateful Andrew?
A man is running a business and his customers choose to go there, its called providing a service
