Doug Welby's new book is printed and appears to be a comprehensive informative volume, well illustrated and printed.
"THE INVASION that never was"
- Survival of the people of East Kent on the Frontline 1914-1945 by Douglas Welby -
"This book records the struggle for survival and the constant fear of an enemy invasion as experienced by the ordinary folk in the towns and villages of East Kent over the period1914-1945. It includes first hand stories and official documents and is profusely illustrated. It is designed to evoke memories amongst the older generation and to inform the younger age groups what their parents and grandparents had to endure to overcome a tyrannical enemy bent on destroying this great country.
The wartime years were grim but having what was referred to as the 'Wartime Spirit' engendered by the notion that we were right, enabled the people of this country to 'Keep Smiling Through' (one of the rallying songs of the time) and win through even against overwhelming odds."
