Paul, there was me thinking that the Napoleonic defences were built before the Napoleonic Wars, which ended in 1815. And there was me thinking further that in 1854 The Light Brigade effected the charge in Crimea which brought them to world fame, and the Thin Red Line halted the onslaught of the Russian Heavy Brigade.
Oh, almost forgot to mention, the French were fighting side by side with the British in Crimea.
