I thought councils after having served notice and notice period had elapsed were able to undertake clearance and have the costs recouped through the courts the derisory fine is on top of those costs?
I think you may be referring to outside work Reg such as cutting back undergrowth that is blocking a pavement or making safe a wall/fence that looks likely to be a danger to pedestrians. Actually going onto private property counts as trespassing so no council would take a chance on that. Prosecution on flytipping is of course dependant on there being evidence of who done it which is very difficult with builder's rubble.

Same picture as Terry above but in higher resolution, should note that the front of this pile is about 6ft deep.

Not one official elected or un-elected gets involved, or comments
Remember this is a main walkway to the Sea-front and the Town etc. All Cruise passengers, tourists, towns-folk etc pass this now disgusting part of Town.
If this was in a prominent position in Deal or Sandwich, it certainly would not take 38 years to make good.

It should be remembered that our top elected representatives in DDC do not live in Dover so probably only know of the Crypt on paper if at all, it needs the businesses (now and future) in that area to annoy the hell out of those at Whitfield then something might get done.
The various history bodies involved also need to take a high percentage of the blame for ignoring this not very interesting historical site for so many years.

Sue Nicholas...
Cllr Nigel Collor, spends a great deal of his time in the Mash Tun - Bench Street.
Only a few doors down from the Crypt.
As I am sure, you have his ear.
Perhaps, you could persuade him to trot down the road and have a look

I never knew Nigel liked a drink until I saw him sober one time.

I had a very positive phone call from DDC this afternoon. I won't go into detail but they will be collecting evidence tomorrow and contacting the "interested" parties.
They will update me later in the week.

Can't someone get in touch with the Mayor and ask him to clear it all away the next time he is in that area?

After clearing the trees, shrubs and badger setts in Westmount he feels he has done his best.

A few years ago I did suggest turning it into some sort of remembrance garden but it fell on deaf ears.

Well done Messrs Nunn, Newsam + McSweeney and to DDC. Makes a pleasant change from endlessly debating the performance of councillors, mayors and residents!

I very much echo the above post #38. It is good to see some postive and welcome news for a change.
There is an unconfirmed report that this whole area, including the Crypt, has been purchased by a London developer from the Godden Estate.

I can understand why it has taken so long to reach this stage, the widow of the late Mr Godden is a director of 51 companies - most of them with a mixture of the words "Godden" "properties" and "estates" included. There are many co-directors some of whom are family members so getting everyone to agree on the way forward must be cumbersome.
