As far as preserving the 'traditional ways' of the Inuit goes, just how 'traditional are snowmobiles and hunting rifles. In Pakistan three girls were horrifically murdered for not going into arranged marriages and yet a member of their new coalition government described the murders as a local tradition that he would defend. Tradition tends to be whatever is convenient at the time and it is to be hoped that we should all be growing more civilised as time goes on rather than tying ourselves down to outdated traditions. Of course I could be wrong and we can look forward to the return of sun worship and human sacrifice.
