I'm staggered. Brian and I think alike!
Ad in today's paper "24 HD Olympic Games channels from the BBC. Available on SKY"
Bloody glad I don't have SKY. I see that the kid's channels are being shunted off for non-stop olympics.
Madness.

Yes the BBC do fall in love with Wimbledon every year. They go way overboard with the cream teas in south London..I used to live quite near it and the whole place goes weird. The BBC buys into this..as it helped create the social frenzy in the first place. People who dont know one end of a tennis racket from another become avid fans for 2 weeks per year. What happens in the tournaments following along afterwards in Wimbledons wake...well few are interested in.
Its sort of like Royal Ascot..a place to be seen, a place to be on the trend, and of course oh so comfortably upper middle class.
The BBC got heavily criticised for going madly over the top on the Jubilee weekend as well, they have to overkill a good idea, it seems to be part of their oddball philosophy. Look at the soporific coverage of the Olympic Torch. By the time it reaches Dover we will be worn out by overkill and the sickening smiles of the holy newscasters.
I like sport myself, the football in particular, but the tennis does really take the biscuit..night and day, day and night. The football lasts an hour and a half then everyone goes home.

i sometimes get interested towards the end of a closematch, got hooked on one yesterday that had gone on for over 5 hours.
the olympic torch relay is only of interest to the towns welcoming it, the overkill coverage is a total bore.

mmmm overkill and obsession all in the same thread i am amazed.must agree that the bbc go over the top,so much so it gets into a frenzy, and has repeats in the live coverage.

Presumably everybody watches TV through Freeview Sky Free Sat etc, they give you access to more channels than you could have dreamed of not so long ago including at least 4 BBC and 4 ITV channels, surely there is something you could find to watch? or would that give you nothing to moan about

martin, not moaning as such, but as you say there is 4 bbc channles, surely they could dedicate at least 1 channel to the tennis.prefably not bbc 1.

I really do not understand why the BBC publish any programme list when Wimbledon is on, in recent years the schedule changes at their whim and blow what the non tennis fan might have planned to watch. My other gripe is the lack of information when they do alter the schedule.
Anybody else stocked up with DVDs to watch this summer.
