was a very small congregation to watch the band when i turned up earlier, which is not surprising given the scant publicity. nothing changes on that score unfortunately.
the most important member of the orchestra here and the chap on the left of the conductor looks familiar.
indeed it was people's port champion and scourge of the harbour board - neil wiggins.
i was astonished that this girl still had any puff left after picking her instrument left.

tee hee Howard. Even if there were not that many people there yesterday, it was a good blow for the band and a good use for the pavilion on a Sunday afternoon. Me, far from most important in anything, always just a part of the whole serving the organisation. Nice that you got two of my girls in the same picture, April next to me in the glasses and May behind her. May played a beautiful Flugel Horn Solo later and April performed the solo part excellently in "Somewhere over the rainbow" towards the end of our second set.

i did wonder if they were your daughters neil, always nice to see a family doing things together.
these concerts certainly need pushing more, posters up around pencester gardens the day before would do the trick.

Neil, how nice to see you and your lovely Daughters there on the bandstand, you must be very proud of them. I was away, so unable to be there but I have put the next 2 dates in my diary
Nice one Howard.

Thank-you Colette. My 3 youngest girls are all in the band and I'm very proud of them, they play really well; April on First Cornet (often playing the solo part instead of me), May on Flugel Horn and Morena on Tenor Horn (some of you may have seen Morena on TV where she had the very last words of the 'Come Fly With Me' comedy series by David Walliams and Mat Lucas, or seen May in the Dr. Barnados advertising campaign about young carers on posters and in leaflets which went out in January last year).

I thought your third daughters name was going to be June Neil, wasn't expecting Morena.

Aha, always have the odd surprise ready. Our eldest two are Mypee and Mark, but as we were moving around or living in flats in the Far East when they were little, neither really took to music when we got back to the UK. Mark played with the band for a little while but gave it up at 14 to pursue aliens on his Play Station.

This coming Sunday 01 July. Eythorne Silver Band will be playing together with members of the Bettshanger Academy Band between 1400 and 1600 at the Pencester Bandstand. This time we'll be playing items from the Bettshanger Concert set.

Quite a lot of people today, certainly more than last time. We had Bettshanger Academy band with us, so about 30 musicians on the stand today conducted by Chris this week, allowing our Eythorne conductor to enjoy playing the Soprano cornet.
