...to our Remembrance Day Concert.....
I though it was a great evening.
We did have a few problems due largely to performers arriving from all over Kent many after having to finish work or other Armistice Day events. While we did all we could to prepare as much as early as possible everyone needed for the Finale were not gathered together by 6.30, the buglers from the DofYRMS and the Sea Cadets had not played together and needed to practise, some standard bearers had only just got there and all their timings had to be finalised for what was the most important and complex bit of the evening that had to be minute perfect. One of the Clovers was delayed getting down from London and did not arrive until 7.05 and in the end had to go one without her sound checks, not that you would have noticed, Andrew Martyn on sound and lights was brilliant, a real star.
Anyway with people arriving kit being hustled around we had to keep areas clear and people had to wait outside until 7pm and even then could not go into the main hall until 5-10 minutes later.
I went outside to apologise and invite people in but it didn't work that way as I has someone shouting at me as soon as I went to the door... no doubt someone who has never had to deal with the organisation of such a thing before...
There were a few more things that if we were doing it again we would tweak and alter but overall the performers were great and the remembrance went off well though there was a rather intoxicated lady who shouted bless them at the start of the silence then cried....
Another rather drunk lady (might have been the same one, but we had two if them!) unfortunately fell over on the steps as she was leaving and an ambulance was called. Hope she is OK.
Anyway - quite a few people asked us to do it again. What do you think? No promises, it was a massive amount of work but doing something for a second time is always easier and we have the contacts needed for it now.
Your honest opinions please....
One further thing.... I have plenty of programmes left. If anyone would like one as a souvenir or just to see what happened they can be collected for a donation of your choice towards the RBL from my office. One the night they were sold for £2.50 and is a quality publication.
