Wow! a great spread of teeth of the action pictures there Paul. But...all that rolling!!! did you feel queesy at all out there in the thick of it with the wind and salt in your hair?? Hope they had good sea legs on the Stavros S Niarchos..woe steady. But great stuff there, really shows what it was like out there.
Oh dear! brings back memories of the Oul Princess Maud ( oh no dont mention the Princess Maud again PaulB ) on the Dublin- Holyhead run..all that rolling and chucking...where's my analyst, get my analyst on the phone!

Very nice to see some pictures, and to see other media about this, eg on the RNLI website, so to catch up with what we missed here.
We watched online on the BBC feed when the Olympic torch was in Dover. It was nice to be able to see quite a bit of it, but unfortunately at some key moments there were no pictures online. While the torch was at sea we watched security with an impromptu game of football, and while it was in the castle we watched the bus waiting for it to come back. The pictures failed several times, and gave up finally before the end of the relay.

Hi Maggie, see also the thread Tall Ship, it has now slipped onto page 2 but more pictures there as well for your enjoyment. The forum moves along at quite a pace so before you know it near vital stuff is on page 2.

Maggie, you left out the bit where they lost the picture because of the "pesky gremlins". I was very disappointed with the BBC feed no pictures of the torch once it left Market Square not even along the seafront but by then I was watching the tv.

paul done well to survive that sea and get the photos.
if it had been any worse they might all have had to draw straws to decide who would be eaten first.

Yes indeed, Thank You Paul; certainly gives a flavour of the weather out there. Pity it couldn't have been a week later - sun and warmth forecast for this Wednesday.

A third tall ship for Dover. The Dutch-flagged 'Eendracht' is on the Prince of Wales Pier this morning.

Yes indeed. When I took the high road to tesco she wasnt there but has since come in..and here she is with the Nautica in the background. Might put this one on the cruise liner thread as well...kills two birds with the one stone kind of thing.
A very modern and sleek three master... The Eendracht.
Dutch.

could well be right barry, a team of merciless , bloodthirsty mercenaries that will abduct bobby g and his entire board and demand a multi million pound ransom.
i feel sure that neil will be dipping into his pockets to rescue the port supremo.

There is a tall ship in the harbour ...over in the harbour proper, I can see the three masts clearly now as its high tide. It is probably the one Howard photographed but it wasnt there this morning...so I dunno. But if anyone wants to see it etc etc..

This almost certainly appears to be the Salomon (the Swiss flag is the clue). Built in Holland as the fishing lugger "Luchtstraal" in 1910, she has undergone many roles and identities. Now she is operated by Verein Jugendschiffe.ch (Reederei) of Basel as a training ship.
Here she is at Dover in 2008.
