09:0576682Did anyone else notice the massive jumbo of an airliner flying around Dover yesterday? around 3pm time, it was over the castle and the port being escorted by a small aircraft at its side but very unusual to see it that low for a long lengh of time to.

09:5276687mel,was the smaller aircraft air force if so it could have been a security alert on the larger plane being excorted to a safe airport to sort the problem out.

10:2676691It was a Virgin jumbo followed by what looked like a trainer (someone with the knowledge might identify from the pic, apologies it's rubbbish but I had the wrong lens with me for this type of shot) It did several circles around between Langdon and Ramsgate, then went off East, came back for a few more circles, flew off over Calais, then returned and headed in a London direction.

15:2876878Talking about Manston, there was a residents meeting over there recently regarding the resuming of night flights. One point that came out in the discussions was that, since the wind farm has been activated, the radar no longer works properly and they can no longer land a plane safely there. Another radar is being acquired, but it is at least a month away.
Scary, huh?

14:0577059Re the radar situation, it is in NO WAY UNSAFE and meets all CAA requirements, it is awaiting an upgrade to make it even safer
Been nice knowing you :)

14:1477060Just passing on info received from a friend in Thanet who was at the consultation. I wasn't there, but she states ''Just to let the residents of Thanet know, after the public "consultation" last night regarding night flights over Thanet from Manston airport, we found out since the wind farm was activated, the radar at the airport now "doesn't work properly" and they can no longer land a plane safely. The earliest the airport will aquire an appropriate radar is November 2011.''
Hopefully, she has been misinformed; I would hope so anyhow! It seems strange that they were left with the impression that this is unsafe, if that is not the case

11:2377218I used to live up Bunkers Hill Road, until 1992 the only planes I ever heard loud enough for me to look up, were army helicopters going to and from the barracks. Any other plane was quite high up and no problem at all. In 1992 my daughter then moved into the house, she moved out in 2003 and still visits friends up there, she has not noticed a problem either.
I think you must have very sensetive ears Mel, if the noise is a problem. Another point surely the residents of the whole area would have complained by now if there really was a noise problem.
