Ditto..............
8 out of 10 firms say UK must stay in EU - CBI/YouGov survey
Leaving would hit investment and trade - and make us less competitive
Firms also identify several priorities for reform
If a referendum on the future membership of the European Union was held tomorrow, a substantial majority of CBI members would support staying in, fearing an exit would affect access to trading markets and business investment, leaving the UK less competitive. That's according to a new snapshot CBI/YouGov survey.

I find this very surprising as there will be no change to our trading with the EU and it will open up greater markets outside Europe, thereby making it better trading conditions for British businesses.
"Mr Balls is expected to say: "There is no future for Britain in walking away from our biggest market - or threatening to do so for reasons of internal party management."
There is no walking away at all, this is just scaremongering nonsense.

Yes this is some interesting news from the CBI. The simple truth Roger is that if you are outside the EU club your own products will become more expensive to sell. The EU housewife wont want to spend more on UK goods.
lets say for argument sake
EU Cabbage 1Euro
UK Cabbage 1Euro 20
and you can see where this is going.
I dunno...its like having a shop in a successful shopping centre with lots of people buying and spending and you decide to move out of the shopping mall and open up down the road where you might or might not make a success of it. I totally understand what the CBI are saying on this.
Even President Obama said we should remain inside. Prime Minister Cameron and the CBI want to stay in but want reforms which is fair enough...but you can only bring about reform from the inside.
Also nobody is stopping anybody selling to China etc. But we currently only have a tiny percentage of trade with this new world...so far. It would be a long time before the shortfall would be made up, if ever.

I do not believe that our goods will be more expensive out of the EU as the EU countries will continue to want to export to us, so will not put up trade tariff barriers to us exporting to them.
We are not in the Euro currency, so exchange rates won't change.

Time and again I get the impression that the US-A is looking for a US-B. In many ways this could be a good thing, in many ways this could be less good.
As the EU is here to stay, there is no better place to be than within it.

I disagree Tom - and Paul, Reg and Brian and all the other Europhiles.
I do think though, that re-negotiations should be attempted to get a better deal and if that is not good enough, then out we come

Exactly wrong Roger.
We must begin to see ourselves as full members, and not some special case.
Yes, much of the original thinking about how best to create a unified Europe has become counter-productive as the world has moved-on in ways not envisaged by the 'founding-fathers' of the EU, but the world has shifted in ways that effect us all.
It is not good enough that the UK strive merely to better itself. We must adjust as a whole.

no surprise that the cbi love the european union it is in the majority of their members, as stated earlier in the thread they love the supply of cheap labour to keep their profits up whilst hitting u.k workers living standards.
i doubt that many small businesses support staying in due to the red tape they have to put up with.

The official UKIP response:-
The report published by the CBI today is out of touch with reality, says UKIP.
In a recent YouGov survey commissioned by Business for Britain, nearly half of CBI members polled said they felt the cost of red tape outweighed the benefits of EU membership.
UKIP Leader Nigel Farage said: "There is this deeply flawed view that leaving the EU would somehow mean a sudden end to trading with Europe. The CBI does not consider the more realistic option that if we left the single market and freed ourselves from its red tape and politicised agenda we would still be able to continue to trade strongly with Europe on our own terms. Leaving the EU would not mean turning our back on Europe.
"Instead the CBI are proponents of this skewed view that Britain can renegotiate terms with the EU to create a more streamlined relationship. That would have to involve treaty change but the European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso has ruled that out. Without Treaty change there can be no significant renegotiation at all. We would simply be cutting a few loose threads from a coat that no longer fits.
"We are far better getting out of the EU and building a fresh relationship with our European neighbours. That is what the Government and organizations like the CBI should be looking at rather than clinging to the vain hope that the EU project can be miraculously cured of its ills."

"out of touch with reality"
Now, there is something UKIP knows a great deal about, or at least has great experience with.
The way forward with UKIP is to hope against hope that we get things right...nearly half of the time.
