    Maybe it could be added that British Jews are generally belonging to one of two groups:
    Ashkenazi, who historically speak Yiddish from around the 12th century, and moved here from Central and Eastern Europe;
    and Sephardi, who traditionally speak a Portughese dialect, or any other Mediterranean language of Latin influence.
    Many of these came from Portugal and Holland (where they had previously moved to from Portugal and Spain).
    Benjamin Disraeli was a Sephardi Jew.

    Sephardi Jews do not define themselves as Yeed (spelled Yid), as they are not of Yiddish linguistic background.
    Perhaps the whole case is one of cultural differences between Jews.

    Anyway, Yeed (written Yid) comes from the Hebrew name Yehuda. In German, Yehuda became Jude, which in Yiddish became Yeed (spelled Yid).

    Jan and Keith are just doing political point-scoring when suggesting I'm indifferent to people's feelings.

    I'm still trying to figure out who the "Society of black law-makers" are.
    Don't all lawyers wear a black robe?
