22:5069413just read that the red party have shot themselves in the foot at a time when the blues were doing the same in government.
they have decided that there has to be a minimum of 6 woman persons in the cabinet at any one time, the same applies in reverse.
could have been worse the harperson wanted even more segregation.
i find it hard to believe that even before david or his brother gain power the shadow cabinet is decided.

23:5269422Then who will stay at home and do the cooking?
9 September 2010
00:0269425Good question Alexander. Luckily alot of the Labour females are lesbians (most on the far left are), so there's another girlie at home (probably dressed like a bloke) to do the chores.
We can rely on the Millefeuille Brothers to do the macho thing and sort this bunch of loonies out; or maybe not!

00:0569427Sid, do people realise this when they vote?
9 September 2010
00:0969429I think most realise that the party is run by a combination of egotists and idiots so far to the left., i.e. Gordon Brown - a closet militant, that it comes as no surprise when someone like Harri Man Hater comes out with this rubbish. I sometimes wonder why they don't put the hammer and sickle on their little red flags, at least it would be honest.

07:1869438Sounds more than stupid to me.
Surely any Cabinet (or decision making body) should be based on merit and ability (same thing) not what sex they are ? (or what colour, religion, age etc. too, come to that).
If the Conservatives are doing it as well, then they are stupid too.

Cameron does do the same, but let me just answer the labour side;
I do not, and will not support the moves by the labour party to plant women in position just to get an even balance.
It Is sad things have to be done this way because of men's attitude towards women(some)and Sid's comments on lesbians illistrates his view and explains all.
Let me take you back to the KCC elections 6 years ago in Dover,
I got to find out the then county group leader(labour) decided to put the 2 dover seats candidates up as women only could stand.
totally stupid, you may recall myself and bill newman there at that time
majority over 2,000
to put an unknown in, and someone that may not even have the ability would have been wrong.
I went to the regional labour party, and argued my case there making many enemies but that didnt matter, nd it was surprizing how suddenly all these women(and some men) forgot about democracy and instead wanting these women imposed.
After a lot of talking locally and regionally i was ready to campaign against this move but at the last minute they backed down.
It's my clear view that I won't ever vote for someone imposed on me, whether thats MP, Council or wherever.
I did find out in discussions that in fact thew national party was only giving advice and thats all it was, advice that they would LIKE to see 50% women in labour groups, its like lots of things you like to advise on.
With this advice you can take it or leave it, sadly some more locally found it a way to get rid of 2 rebels
but they hadnt counted on the support those 2 had.
Anyway, its wrong.
Im for supporting more women in politics, and have in the past and will in the future fight for women, b ut imposing the wrong way, many labour women were offended by that move to as they wanted to get selected by ability.

07:4269449Totally agree with Keef....it's the thin edge of the wedge.Where will it end blacks or asian only positions.I am all for getting rid the cronies system and jobs for the boys ie Osborne and Cameron from school mates to cabinet posting but all posts should be awarded on merit and ability and not dependant upon which school you attended, the colour of your skin or ones gender.

08:2269455Conservatives are not doing the same, there are no Cabinet quotas and quite rightly so.
The idea is pc loonacy.
Equality of opportunity, yes - that is totally different to meddling with idiotic quotas

10:3569470No Howard - there were no 'all women shortlists' unless by accident in the natural selection processes, non were actually imposed. Though there was ill-considered discussion about doing it that did not last long. Conservatives do not take well to that kind of rubbish.

10:5269471Good posting Keith, thanks.
Disappointed that you 'fell' for the outrageous suggestion in my post #3 though. I was aiming to stir up Marek and Alexander!
On a serious note, aren't Labour advocating a breaking of the sexual discrimination laws by recommending all female candidates?

14:2569499Melissa, I have just completed a painting and decorating job.
My sister came nearly every day to cook for me, after coming home from where she works.
Such a nice sister! I always have a bottle of wine ready for her and do a little shopping to have the food in the fridge.
Alas, the owner comes back tomorrow, the work's done, and now I must revert to my own por cooking!
I started following your thread, and later will read it through.
Have you read my bagpipes article? Just yahoo: Bagpipes British Isles, it should come out at the top.
I noticed that bagpipes are quite well liked, and even Colin has opened a thread on them!

14:3969505SID;
I fell for nothing but sadly I have seen in my days on county/District there are many from all parties that believe women should not be in politics, and so it can be uphill for some women to get on in politics.
That said when labour was ADVISING this all these years ago the tories at that time were on TV saying they are doing the same. so barryw keep up to date mate.
I do not, and never will agree to anyone being imposed, and I recall a women at a labour meeting actually saying to some of those proposing this that they are doing little to forward the womens cause by imposing.(not quite as nicely put as that lol)
Im clear on this one, any labour person imposed on me I will not vote for!!
if they go through the selection process then fair enough, but it has to be an open one, not just for women!!!!
Some of the wheeling and dealing being done at the time of the KCC elections wow
It's not something i compromise on, and wouldn't!!!!
It did become difficult for me as i was one they wanted out,
but for the wrong reasons, If a good candidate(man or woman ) had come along at that time I would have happily stepped aside, in fact I would have helped them in whatever way I could!!!
It was funny cos they only chose the 2 Dover seats, unaffected were the ones making the decisions!!!!
when i suggested what about one Deal and one Dover, no chance!!!!
funny that
by the way i was only testing them out I wouldnt have agreed to that either!!!!
its no to imposing full stop!!!!
