One represents Deal and the other Sandwich .Not everything centres around Dover.Do you not study who they are.Cllr Murphy is the Cabinet member on DDC for Housing etc.Cllr Chandler former Chairman of DDC

I believe the only difference is that they will get even more money for asking the officers what they should do.

That's the thing Sue
All the parties say they want to reconnect with communities
We only sometimes see them at election time
Last KCC election we saw no one

They were not allowed to canvass.

It makes no difference. We moan and moan and yet the same old, same old get voted in again. No one canvasses here in River because it is a known outcome. We are not "served" we are mere ballot fodder. Regardless of your political persuasion, it is time that DDC and KCC was cleared out and only those whom give a damn about the people they purport to represent should be elected, Independent, Labour, Liberal or Tory. WE, the people, should actually examine whom we are voting for, not the party they represent. Local politics is as tribal as national politics and if we want change, we need to look to ourselves.

Very true Annie, but when turnouts at elections reach no where near 50% it suggests the majority really don't care and just want to get on with their lives. Compulsory voting with a none of the above box, is my preferred route. How else can we get the apathetic to show some interest? Without them nothing will change.

As someone who did not vote in the latest lot of elections I do not think it is solely apathy any longer.
I chose to abstain because there was no point in voting for the same old lot that stand time after time that in no way really care about the area they hopefully live in. Plus I refuse to vote simply for a party as locally that is not what the local elections should be about, I suspect that many of those who turn out are voting for party and do not even know the name of who they voted for.

AnnieM Yes they do normally canvass in River.I always canvassed.River for KCC was switched from Dover West to Dover Town four years ago .They knew there would be a good turn out for the Conservatives.
This time round I did not know the new Conservative guy .
The problem with the local politics two many councillors serve all three councils .I believe you can only do the one job properly.

I propose that every voter should have 2 votes. One vote for one candidate plus one vote AGAINST one candidate. Votes against to be deducted from votes for.

The problem also is there are a lack of credible candidates or lack of choice , you tend to vote for the best of a bad lot ...
If we look purely at the KCC election for our area , we have not heard or seen our councillor of many years that's not a good sign.
Then we have, as Sue says a parachuted in other councillor from Deal (hardly local)

When I joined this group we had councillors on here that made them seem individuals rather than complete strangers. These councillors gradually left because their actions or lack of action got questioned rather than them continuing too fight their corner they gave up yet we are still supposed to give them our vote.

I agree Pam is good and has helped with a problem in my road in the past but we are no longer in her area because of the boundary changes. Having said that I was against her being on KCC. DDC. and DTC at the same time, Pam is the only councillor that I can remember meeting since moving here nearly twenty years ago.

I met you Jan. But that's fine
Those that have long memories on here may recall cllr Collor being loud on here until in control of administration . In fact very critical of those in the controlling party at that time .
In years gone by we have had a handful of well known and some well respected councillors over the past years .
One that will always spring to mind is Bill Newman
One of our best county councillors .
Well respected by all parties and we'll respected in the community .
The trouble is when you get the likes of Rix and his bad publicity on sniffing stuff that reached world wide , and even my sister in law in Singapore asked what it was all about ,!
Even out own forumite Bob got himself entangled on controversy on radio station and the public
There are a handful of cllrs working hard but there are also a number in it for the wrong reasons .

Yes Keith I remember but you did not represent my area, I also met Bill Newman when he came to collect Jean from the Age Concern shop all those years ago.
