17:2464784Exactly what I mean Howard. Cut back on a weekly shop due to no overtime, but the money saved doesn`t show up a week later when times are better and you`re spending again. Same thing as any government spending cut, but on a smaller scale.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

17:4664785Jonathan Edwards Plaid Cymru MP has asked for the Red Arrows to be disbanded in an attempt to save £8.8 million per year. A review is now taking place.....

17:4964786that would be a very unpopular move, however the coalition did state that all options were open and that all departments would have to face heavy cuts.

17:5964788The red Arrows are the very best in the world at what they do and they do their shows all over the world and still shows what the UK can put on.And at only £8.8 Milliond a year which is nothing keep them.

18:2564790Just checked out the Welsh MP, he is against anything to do with the RAF presence in Wales. By the way 8 million may be the cost but that does not take into account the fees paid to the M O D for their performances at home and abroad. Also the goodwill and exports gained by them cannot be quantified.

18:3064793i did wonder if that figure included the fees that organisations pay for them to turn up and do their stuff.

19:0764800Everything is indeed up for review and it is quite right that the future od the Red Arrows be included. They are, however, the best in the world, they are a credit to the UK and a massive benefit to both the Armed Forces and Britain as a whole. My own view is that cutting them would be a massive mistake and counter productive. I trust that this option will be rejected.

19:0764801I think we should maintain the Red Arrows at all costs and if we scrap Trident there would be no need to put the armed forces to the sword by savage cuts.

19:1064802No Marek - we should not cut Trident - best re-phrase that, we should not cut our nuclear deterrant. I have no hang-ups over whether its Trident or an alternative, as long as its effective. I did think that a better option would be nuclear tipped cruise missiles launched from our hunter killer subs. This would save a lot of money but someone said that treaty obligations have banned that option so it may not be possible.

Fair point.I did not mean cut all nuclear weapons but just the introduction of a not tried, tested and costly Trident. There other options on the market.
