i was told that triangles is heavily reliant on income from the children's centre so their future could be uncertain.
doubt if more people will access the service if it is just at the discovery centre because of high local bus fares, the kcc cabinet member jenny whittle has acknowledged that fact.

Does this mean that 'the high cost of hiring rooms' equates to the public funding of community services?
Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.

Any one can book a room or a hall at the Triangles Centre Lesley, it doesn't have to be a community group. There are cardiac rehab exercies there two days a week; perhaps they (the Trustees) need to promote it better and/or reduce their room rates.

Having played a large part in securing the funding for the Triangles Centre, helping them set up as a Charitable Trust, forming their managment committee and taking great pleasure in seeing the Community take ownership of the project I would hate to see the wonderful residents of St. Rads struggle to keep their much needed facility going. If Sure Start move their offices they will take a hefty slice of the Centres income with them. Community Centres are businesses and need a steady, reliable funding stream to operate successfully.

triangles struggles as it is so this could be the last straw, i was at their official opening back in 2004 and was highly impressed with the building and the facilities there.

Like any business though, they need to supply what their customers want - facilities and prices.

maybe there lies the rub roger?
i can remember being shown around by a young chap at the opening and i was taken by his enthusiasm, pointing out to me a fine muriel. then showed me a board where local "yoof" had sunk their palm and finger prints into something that would set later.
it was a bit of a letdown when a prominent police person commented along the lines of "great stuff we have all their details on file for later".

the trouble with most community cenres is that they are identified as needed by the community, local agencies then come forward eager to deliver the projects, promise to give support and finacial assistance but cannot maintain that help. It's a vicious cycle and I was mindful of that fact when neighbouring wards refused to share services provision and premises. Duplication in the voluntary sector is not cost effective or, in the long term, viable.

I'd be gutted Keith.
I hope they capitilise on the building of the poly clinic and offer their rooms for meetings etc should the building work disrupt services at the Hospital.
Maybe they should also rethink the community facilities at Buckland Mill site, after all it's but a stones throw from both Triangles and Buckland Community Centre.

I have mentioned it before lesley
but maybe its worth a small mention again,
places such as the triangles centre got the go ahead after a lot of prior work by the likes of lesley
who worked hard to get volunteers to believe in themselves in running there own communities.
I saw many volunteers in the very early days saying ,,,, no way could they take on such projects
to end up being community leaders
it wasnt easy, and there were some stumbling blocks,
but what it did do, is local people to believe they can help to run and have an input in to there own communities
well done lesley

Thanks Keith, must say that the Ward Councillors, at all level, pulled together during my time with SRB. Gaining the trust of the community was a hard battle, they had been made so many promises in the past only to be let down.
The funding for these projects must ensure that they will be able to maintain their outcomes and for that they need the support of those agencies who encouraged them in the first place. They should all have community engagement officers who have knowledge of external funders.

saw gordon in town this afternoon and he was pleased overall with the outcome and had much praise for kcc cabinet member jenny whittle who accepted his invitation to visit dover and base her decision on what she saw herself and heard from users of the centres.
