Advert for teas and coffees, 1847: (from Dover Telegraph): (how about some Strong Rough Breakfast teas ??)
Frederick SIMS 46 Castle Street, Dover. Notice of opening of establishment for the sale of teas, coffees and spices
As follows:
The Tea Exchange and Family Grocery Establishment No.46 Castle Street:
To the Resident Gentry, Visitors, and inhabitants generally of Dover and its surrounding District
Frederick Sims, (son of Mr John Sims, late grocer) respectfully announces to his Friends and others that his establishment is now opened, with a choice and rare selection of Teas, Coffees and spices together with every article in grocery for family consumption.
"From the advantages of connexion the Proprietor has had for the last seven years with the London and Liverpool Markets, he feels confident that the selection of goods he now offers must ensure perfect satisfaction, and at such prices as shall meet the views of the most frugal; particularly he would invite a trial of his Strong Rough Breakfast Teas and Rich Pekoe Souchong, as being the most useful in point of strength, flavour and general utility (for quality is the only criterion of cheapness). A good selection of all these rare sorts of Teas, as Orange and Flowery Pekoe, Scented Caper, Imperial Gunpowder and Young Hyson, always on hand, of fresh roasted Coffee he would particularly recommend the Mountain Jamaica for strength and the Mocha for richness of flavour. The Proprietor, in seeking the confidence of his friends by Fair and honourable dealing (for on no other system can business be done satisfactorily) respectfully solicits their
favours:
