Yes Bern , Im probably having a bad day. Ive probably lost my sense of humour too because there is too much of a large effort needed to keep all this running so when people are not playing the game.. well..
Yes as I said before one liners can be good - if done well. But those ones are quite rare. Some forums have almost nothing but one liners but thats not for doverforum, if we cant deliver quality then ...I dunno.
The Politics section started off well but it has been slumbering. It can only be Conservatives or Labour kind of thing which leaves it one dimensional in so many ways. For the first while that was stimulating fun but its only got one blind alley of sameness to go up. So the outlook isnt good.
What can we do? It seems a shame to risk losing such a potentially fun and exciting forum.

Paul,
Do not be despondent, what you talk about is the current malaise of much of western politics. But it need not be that way as the "old" parties do not have a monopoly on good ideas and most absolutely do not have a monopoly on being right, in fact their monopoly seems to be on being wrong. The newer parties, like the Greens, have many interesting policies and view points, it is not all hair shirts and lentils any more. Similarly there are many independently minded individuals on here who want to contribute to political debate, especially about our town and district and this forum is a fantastic place to do this.

I laughed out loud.I love it.Have no fear I have it on good authority that Nigel intends to throw his hat into a forthcoming council election ring and move up the world of politics so to speak. So as and when he does I'm sure that this section will act like the Phoenix and rise again.
On a serious note following the tragic and untimely death of Ivan Cameron it didn't seem cricket to have a pop at 'Dave C until a respectful period of time of mourning had elapsed.
ps I know what bad days are like..I've not touched a drop of alcohol for over 2 weeks...help me mother as Formby would oft cry.

Yes fair enough guys...Im probably needing a few hours off, needing a rest. This politics section isnt open all that long but I had the ambition to bring 'westminster quality' debate to it if possible. I felt sure everyone would enjoy that, get a lot of buzz from it, that was the blueprint idea anyway. Like the politicians say, I meet people when Im out and about and they have told me thats what they want. While the ordinary forum could be just that...ordinary. I like a bit of frivolity as well as anyone as most of you know

my posting got lost there let me try again.
are you sure about the westmister quality of debate paul?
thought we had that already.
i think what is needed is people from outside the main political parties contributing.
ross mentions the green party, there must be some living around here.
the lib dems are out in force at election times, but never give an opinion here.
there is a likelihood that on of our next euro mp's could come from the ukip, again a resounding silence from them.
the new party???
i would not expect mp's wannabe mps or party councillors to post on here, one wrong word and they are in trouble with their bosses.
just the activists would be nice.

Going back to an earlier theme in this thread, the Taliban effectively eradicated poppy cultivation/heroin production in Afghanistan in the late 1990s/early 2000s. This was supposedly because drug use was considered to be un-Islamic but in truth was driven by the hope of getting sanctions lifted and UN aid coming in to the country. We should not forget that it was policy in the west to have the Taliban in control of Afghanistan and that they were given support in the form of money, arms and training from the very governments that are now portraying them as evil beyond compare. Neither should we forget the fact that western governments were prepared to turn a blind eye to the acts of the warlords (including the re-introduction of large scale poppy growing) as long as the warlords promised to support the emerging President Karzai. You really do reap what you sow.
