We might find out soon. As I said if they can do it over the port then I think it should be done over the toilets.

Kill two birds with one stone. Do it the same way the referendum for the port was held. Stick in an AND so that everybody votes against the first bit and by default has to vote for the second bit. I suggest the following wording:
"Do you oppose the closure of public toilets as proposed by the council AND support the election of Vic Matcham as Mayor of Dover and supreme controller of every parish within a day's walk?"

Mr Matchams idea of a referendum on public toilets should like many of his other wild suggestions be flushed down the loo.
Another waste of public money that could be be put to better use elsewhere in Dover.

I've been on my allotment for an hour so catching up. Back to Vic Matcham at #40, it wouldn't be a referendum which would be binding, they are parish polls.
And to repeat what everyone is saying on here but you don't seem to acknowledge, money spent on a parish poll is money that can't be spent on something else, which makes the matter worse not better. I seem to recall the people's port vote was said to cost about £15,000 - you can do a lot with that sort of money.

that would supply the town with 7 and a half years of summer blooms.
incidentally the bogs seem to be part dtc and part ddc at present, who would the result of the poll be presented to?

Howard, it would only be a parish poll, can't do them at district level as far as I know - wouldn't that cause some fun though

RAY/HOWARD.
It doesn't realy matter where it's presented, the cost is the issue here.
£15,000 to be told what you already know
not binding
achieve very little
what would the electorate think?

The public over the last two years have said we need the public toilets in the town centre to stay open.
I will do my best within the law to do just that.
The best way would be both councils to work with each other to see that happen.
But that does not look like it will happen.
So what choice do the public have now(1) Just lie down and take it,
(2) Or fight to keep them open,I know where I stand on that one,but what about you? give in or fight.

sorry vic, won't happen the die is cast, stembrook has been taken over by the town council, the rest are likely to close.
save your energy for winnable causes.

Mr Matcham, as you say "The public over the last two years have said we need the public toilets in the town centre to stay open" - so there is no need for the expense of a parish poll to restate what is known.
The DDC and DTC councillors (of which you are neither) are obviously working on the problem so why not leave them to get on with it?
I'm now off to the newly reopened Lydden Bell and will no doubt later be using their newly refurbished toilets!

VIC;
Others have posted to say DTC/DDC are working together to try to resolve the issue,
So the last thing they want is some one without the knowledge of any talks that have already taken place, causing rifts.
I hope DTC/DDC Can reach some kind of agreement to keep as many toilets as possible open.

Well said Keith

(not that he'll listen)

There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".
