sadly its usually the parents that create the problem
arriving an hour before they need to
then causing chaos when it would probably be quicker9healthier)to walk

whilst on the council i was brave enough to highlight in the local media a lady who drove from eaton road to vale view school
which, with all the traffic would have been quicker to walk

The road outside Vale View Primary is a nightmare at pick up time. Cars all over the place and people weaving in and out of them...

What a great sign, hope it embarrasses people into not parking where they shouldn't.
Well done that school.

River is the same they park anywhere, even where I live, yellow lines means nothing to them and the speed some go up the road, and will not pull over just dead ahead.

I parked outside of Shatterlocks this afternoon with the front of my car just abutting the restrictive yellow lines when someone reversed to within two inches of my cars front parking on the lines. He then had the nerve to walk to the rear of his car to admire his parking, smiled at me and walked off.
There is a driver of non English parentage who parks every afternoon on the yellow lines outside of 'Little Astor' without fear of facing a penalty. Perhaps the traffic enforcement officers could be encouraged to patrol our schools instead of waiting for those who have paid for parking inadvertantly arriving back late to their cars.

Here in Leicestershire the police have a blitz every now and then when they patrol the areas around schools warning parents and this is followed up by parking control officers issuing tickets. It does make a difference for a while at least.

Here in Farnham there are loads of thirty-something rich mummies in their Chelsea tractors who block all roads within 300 yards of all the schools, they really are a law unto themselves.

Don't bother phoning the traffic wardens, parking attendants, vehicular stationary placement officers or whatever they call themselves nowadays they'll all be too busy looking for easy pickings at the leisure centre car park. Funny how you never see them where they're most needed.

Hi, I have to register my interest in this one. My two children attend this school and, after witnessing several near accidents and the general traffic chaos caused by parents trying to park as close as possible to the school entrance we came up with the ideal for LazyParker. We are producing these banners and posters which will soon be available to all the schools in the country. We donated these ones to our school - who have been very supportive, just to judge the effectiveness and interest level - it has been outstanding!
Appealing to peoples conscience rather than threatening or chasing them away seems to be much more effective and a lot cheaper than tieing up police resources.
www.lazyparker.org is under construction but does have contact details if any other local schools would like the banners and I am grateful for any suggestions and feedback. We are already working on alternative ideas for schools and also for disabled parking, parent and child spaces etc.

i really didn't think when i took the photo it would engender so many views, will be interesting to see the effect of such posters over a period of time.

Combination of bad parking and child safety will always get everyone talking.

I think the banners are a brilliant idea and I hope they are put up in front of every school, the only problem will be convincing the lazy thoughtless drivers to take notice.

many years ago when the girls were smaller they went to St Mary's, I was baby sitting for a friend and had to take said baby and pram to pick up the girl's, there were cars parked on the pavement all along the little lane at the bottom gate, can't remember the name of it, the road was very busy with more cars also double parked car's so no room to walk on either with a pram. Several cars got scratched with the pram as I walked past them, irate drivers threatend me with the police, I said go ahead and call the police, they just drove off when I pionted out they were all illigally parked and no more was said. for the next month there was a teacher there to move the car's on.

Sounds to me like the Traffic Nazis need to spend a couple a couple of school runs outside the schools armed with parking ticket machines; a few instances of unsympathetic fines being dished out might have the desired effect...

On the local TV news this morning Brighton are going to crack down on these selfish and stupid drivers by issuing £75 fines.
