What a terrible terrible tragedy, 27 children dead. My heart goes out to the families, friends and surviving staff and children at the school. A truly horrific thing to happen at any time, but so close to Christmas too.
So today if you're battling with the shopping crowds and feeling less than seasonal, think of these people in the USA and then think "Do I really have reason to moan?"
I'm sure all us forumites send our love and condolences to these poor people and hope they find the strength to cope with everything - God bless them all. Those bright stars you see tonight will be these little ones looking down and wondering .......WHY???
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

Incredibly tragic indeed.
The killer was the son of one of the teachers, who he killed first.
What can make someone want to kill children ? All between the ages of 5 and 10.
It must bring up the topic of gun-ownership; the right to bear arms may be a part of the American Constitution, but at what price and why assault rifles ?
I hear that some people are saying that this shows guns should have been more readily available at the school - surely they need less, not more guns.

I agree completely with the previous postings, so many lives lost is awful and at this time of year it is even worse if that is possible.
Definitely time to amend their ridiculous gun laws or should that be lack of them.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

stories are coming out of great heroism by some teachers who threw themselves between the gunman and pupils.

We will hear the gun brigade out soon stating why guns shouldn't be banned
these incidents should not be forgotten when such decisions are made

My heart felt sympathy goes out to every family effected by this wicked crime, what they must be going through is unthinkable.
America will never learn, what is written in their constitution is far more important to them. If they had a vote across America tomorrow on gun law, they would still vote to have the right to keep them in their homes etc, It has been said the gun man was not mentally right, if that is so then why oh why is a gun so freely available to him, because I suppose their constitution lets it be.
Mind you he was not that mentally ill that he did not know what he was doing, he knew the consequences which is why he took the cowards way out and shot him self.
So yes Keith time to make guns less freely available, but I doubt the people of America will.

Harry
we probably agree on the American version
the UK has seen less regular shootings in schools so consideration here should maybe be looked at

Just read that young Dylan lived opposite the killer. Must be awful for the parents to look out at that house everyday. I know we moan a lot but it makes me thankful that our kids are relatively safe going to schools and cinemas.
