Today's losses reported at £766 million up from £300 million last year
whilst we should applaud the changes in bonus's down from £700 million to £400 million in the past year, and to reduce to £300million in the next year, hopefully we will see the reported changes to go in the right direction and the chief executive continue to turn around this bank's fortunes(no pun intended)
Although the losses look big, forecasters indicate year on year we are to see the bank's fortunes change

The bank is back to profitability and is now on a sound footing thanks mostly to the efforts of the new management team. But losses are still accruing from legacy portfolios for which the present team can hardly be blamed.

No Keith it's capital. Capital and profit are different things.

Keith, RBS has a loss of £2 billion to report for 2011, and the bonus is almost 800 million.
We pay the bonus, as taxpayers.

No Alexander - it does not work that way.

I think what we need here is some kind analogy to household budgets. Let's face it, the Conservative party often use this analogy to explain the economy, so surely it must be possible in this case.
It seems perhaps that RBS family are now 'back at work' and making money. The problem is perhaps that they are still in debt to a family member but STILL going on their 2week holiday. They are also still wasting money on smoking and sky TV.
The people that lent them the money are annoyed.
I mean, you wouldn't run your home finances like this...would you?

What a good analogy
I might show the above post to my oldest grandson I gave up on ever getting the money he 'borrowed'.

Sorry DT1, I am afraid that it does not actually work, that one, as it suggests the people who got RBS into trouble are the same charged with getting it out of trouble and, of course, it was that 'family member' lender that encouraged them to do the silly thing that got them into trouble in the first place...
Both bank leadership teams are doing what is needed we just have to hope that the anti-business sentiments some here and others express does not hinder the process too much.

Perhaps that 'family member' lost oodles of cash backing racing certainties and then borrowed a substantial sum from the family. Yes, this was to finance further gambling and yes winners have been backed...
BUT
Yet more winners need to be found, and they don't come along every day and it is the way the 'family member' lives...so, even though the money is there to pay back the 'fm' still needs it...just in case. Plus, because of the seriousness with which the 'fm' conducts business;attending meetings, rubbing shoulders with and wining & dining owners, hotels, fuel for the necessary reliable car (RR?), and given that there is a boycott and a surrogate must do the actual business (and needs paying hugely)...The 'fm' is sure that things will work out and the family will get it's money back...gambling is gambling is gambling, after all.
That the 'fm' continues to live the high-life and the family cannot..the 'fm' is on the case...just you wait :)

How many know about exactly what they are for or against? From what I have read ignorance (in its true meaning) rule on the issue.
