If you want a real laugh have a look at this glossy document from 2008 which shows the original fag -packet on which the whole thing was designed! (Page 2)
It is all written in consultant bollocks as you would expect with 'hands-on facilitated sessions' 'putting Dover at the forefront of heritage interpretation'.
Do any of our councillors notice that when these consultants turn up it's like the Emperor's New Clothes and it will only take one person to point out that the Emperor is naked for everyone to realise they are being conned?

What is incredible is there are offices picking up wages of over £160,000 and still need to bring in consultantants to tell them what we already know

I agree with Bob .Listening to consultants they are there to sell .I often used to sit and draw flowers on my agenda whilst half listening to them.We have or should have Officers who are more than capable of exploring new opportunities.
The restoration of the Town Hall now that is really something and in years to come that will attract visitors..How many times will the Market Square be redesigned ..The flowers in the Market Square were always lovely .

#21 I don't think links to your own hard drive will work, Cap'n.
#24 Totally agree about the Town Hall, Sue. The volunteers have posted videos of the work thus far on Facehook. Such a beautiful, historic building.

Mr Hutstone I not agree more with you they also have a great organ that needs doing up but would cost over £500,000 to do thatbut Dover still more to get the outside public to visit it .But it is getting there.

They are restoring many of the original features. The pictures and armoury. Carefully taken down and cleaned.Damage to the fabric of the building being repaired. They have another event this month ,so the public can see what is being done.Rome was not built in a day .That is why I question other projects being started.Get one done first. If people think it will be lovely sitting in market Square on those low seats is an attraction?z?Consultants??

Almost 10 years after SEEDA was abolished I wonder how many thousands of new visitors to Dover have been generated from that poorly informed document and how many thousands have been lost to consultants.

Thanks for the links. That really does make for painful reading in the light of where we are now.

As I've said before, when we were about to spaff hundreds of thousands on the Olympics torch going through Dover we were told that we would end up with an 'Olympic legacy' of Dovorians all being as fit as a butcher's dog and increased visitor numbers/overnight stays in Dover.
When I asked at Scruitiny what were the 'present' visitor figures which the increase could be measured against it came out that nobody knew!
Upshot was ludicrous amounts of money were spent and after the event no effort was made to see whether the whole exercise gave 'value for money' or indeed had made any difference to anything.

That all depends on where you mean, the ferry side, the cruise side, the castle visitors or those that actually venture into the town to spend their money.

The town will grow again in time Rome not build in a Day we are having a lot of new builds in housing around the town, I think that if there was no Town council t would be done sooner ,I not mean that because it is red that run it ,I am thinking the about of money it cost to have one, under any flag but I could be wrong but Dover is only small and could be run under one flag.

Anyone who holds a view on the town must be in dispair at the present town centre

From tonight's Council Agenda:-
Councillor E A Biggs will ask the Leader of the Council, Councillor T J
Bartlett:
“Why when funds of 35k were allocated by cabinet for an allegedly joint approach
to progressing the Cable Car project with English Heritage, now that the project
is no longer going ahead the final bill for DDC is in fact £135K.”

Who are all these "consultants".......??

A clear conscience is the sure sign of a bad memory.
