I'm not a royalist as most of you know (bang goes the OBE again). However if I were, I'm pretty sure that I would be horrified that the royal train is being hauled by a GERMAN locomotive.
Yes, the current loco is owned By Deutsch Bahn Schenker. If Churchill were alive today I'm sure he would turn in his grave.

i have always wondered why so many other nations, particularly the states take such an interest in our royal family.

The family name was Saxe-Coberg & Gotha (a branch of the House of Wettin) which King George V changed to the House of Windsor on July 17th 1917 due to anti-german sentiments during World War One.
