I know our building is looking tatty but we have a repairing lease, like a lot of other shops, any money spent on the shop means less for Riverside.
Anybody want to decorate the place for free, please

As I have mentioned on here a number of times, it has been observed that across the Country where LPAs have used 215, the buildings have been refurbished on receipt of that first letter.
Hastings were able to exercise section 215 with Government grant money on a number of their town centre buildings and it made a significant difference.
DDC does not have that grant money and with all the will in the World, DDC have less now to spend (on invoking section 215 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990) than they did when I tried to pursuade them about 2/3 years ago - and I went right to the top then.
It was also brought up by District Councillor Sue Jones at a full council meeting a few months ago.
I believe a different approach is now required.

When I was young, I can remember going to visit/and receiving relatives etc... everyone got into a tiss, because visitors were coming....the Lounge was opened up, the best china was put out, different food. You had to be more polished and washed, behind the ears springs to mind, and best clothing etc was worn.....
Maybe I had an odd philosophy for one so young, why not have this everyday, because it is good to live with an open happy house and so on....that ment you looked after yourself and your home and life because it can always have visitors and openess....................
What I am getting at is this....had Dover and its leaders a different angle on this....
Most of the best parts, and buildings are left, left, left and left to rot....and then as a wise citizen of Dover said....."They" are very good at leaving things closed up and rotting to just pull them down......Never have they done regular and day to day care.....no respect for past buildings and the Town's wonderful history....
Just pull it down and leave......if you look at the older photos of Townwall street the buildings etc....and most of the rotting Dover....other towns have done much better.....
We have rot at the top.................and why all this effort and secrecy (well it is't) for one event when the Town should be a pleasure anyway, if care had been taken all along....

I agree Charlie that Dover should and could look good all the time, not just for a special occasion.
It would make such a difference - to the whole Town and the people who live and visit here.
It's not a case of "rot at the top", but there is so much more that could be done - a "Can-Do" attitude for starters.
Real, practical, down-to-earth projects, initiatives and approach is what is needed, but individuals cannot do it alone.
