Why don't they just shut the whole of Dover for two weeks! The whole place seems to be dug up for road works at present. What a wonderful impression we are giving to the few tourists who venture into town.

Too much like hard-work Marek, the majority of people who could do that sort of work are probably on some sort of benefit - hurt their back ten years or so ago, so are now claiming Incapacity Benefit and cleaning windows.
Of course, I'm sure this applies to only a tiny minoritry of people, the vast majority would jump at the chance of a job - any job (?).

I have to admit that since the Balfour road closure life has been bliss, even the neighbours have commented they would prefer it like this all of the time.

I see sabotage at some time in the future to ensure the 'problem' occurs again.
