When the power station closed I wrote to Thanet and Dover District Councils suggesting they consider a joint project to create something spectacular with the land and with the towers. I based my thinking on Futuroscope in France which I have visited several times with my own children but would happily visit as an adult attraction. The park was, I believe, created to lure people to an otherwise poor area that was a corridor for travellers from the north to the south of France. It attracted EU funding and has become a huge success attracting visitors and businesses and universities to its site. It is also a fantastic day out.
Apparently this would not be the case in England - or so the responses from the councils suggested.
Futuroscope can be viewed at
uk.futuroscope.com but it's worth going beyond the front page which really doesn't do it justice.
