Richborough Cooling Towers
- 13 May 2011 10:14106032When the power station closed I wrote to Thanet and Dover District Councils suggesting they consider a joint project to create something spectacular with the land and with the towers. I based my thinking on Futuroscope in France which I have visited several times with my own children but would happily visit as an adult attraction. The park was, I believe, created to lure people to an otherwise poor area that was a corridor for travellers from the north to the south of France. It attracted EU funding and has become a huge success attracting visitors and businesses and universities to its site. It is also a fantastic day out.
Apparently this would not be the case in England - or so the responses from the councils suggested.

13 May 2011 10:56106040Ever since I moved to the area about 45 years ago I have also seen this landmark but fail to see why they should not go. Assuming they will be replaced with wind turbines these will become the new landmark and be productive at the same time.
I am not one of the "faceless demolition fetishists" I just fail to see why they should stay they are useless, ugly brick towers that are a blot on the surrounding landscape.-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think the time will soon come however when we will all begin to get a little fed up with street art, as it seems to be self propogating all over the place. The art is okay but its beginning to get the hallmark of decay about it.
A landmark will certainly go when they demolish it all...to be replaced by a waste processing plant..ugh!

this chap on the other hand would be perfectly happy to detonate the explosives.
