Reminder: Regatta this weekend.
- 30 June 2011 16:26112607Just a reminder that The Regatta is on this weekend too. A very busy weekend for activities in Dover and the Regatta is always a fab event as we know. No doubt many of you will be popping along to enjoy it all.
One of the traditional highlights and it always goes down well is the RNLI/Air Sea Rescue display and this happens at 1pm saturday. Always thrilling to see. There are tons of other aspects of the event to numerous to mention but dont forget the Firework display at 10pm which is sponsored by Dover Town Council. This also happens saturday. Loud high and colourful...hope those thunderous bangs dont shatter the glass of my gin sling! The events lasts for the two days saturday and sunday.
There are the zillion stalls, Newfoundland Dog Rescue Displays, Helicopter Rides, rowing races, Dragon Boat races, Live Music. Yes indeed Dover positively comes alive.email: dover7@msn.com - 30 June 2011 16:47112618

Always live music to listen to....something for the kids..and for Croc some large animals similar to those he spots on his walks whilst sipping barley wine on the hills. The owners call them dogs but I have my doubts...can't remember the breeds name

There are plenty of opportunities to see them over the weekend.

11 a.m. sees those big dogs go in the water.
1 p.m. rnli/air sea rescue display(not to be missed).
2 p.m. more dragon boat racing.
3 p.m. those dogs again.
4 p.m. dragon boat finals.
plenty of events all day on dry land including model boat display, those dogs again(don't stroke them whatever you do). childrens beach art with the london road community forum, fairground rides and a mixture of stalls and demonstrations.

I hope the combination of Regatta and Carnival is successful and can be built on for the future. Will the cafes etc stay open to meet the possible demand of spectators wandering around the town looking for refreshments?

experience shows that outside vendors will come in and profit from it.
too many of our retailers and hospitality coves think that sundays and bank holidays are sacrosanct irrespective of whether the regatta is on or a cruise ship has berthed. - 30 June 2011 20:07112674Yes we will be taking a stroll along the seafront over the weekend,with a trusty camera i'm sure lets hope the sun shines, with so much going on looks as though it could be a good one.

30 June 2011 21:35112687Trouble is that you have to take enough money to cover the overheads of opening so it is not always viable to employ the extra staff needed.
There are always the pubs that are regularly open for visitors.

It would be good for the passengers to see what Dover can do rather than bussing off to Canterbury and other places. - 30 June 2011 22:23112705Their day-excursions will have been booked at least a few days before they arrive in Dover, Alec.
Roger - 30 June 2011 23:32112709Both the ships in port on Saturday are turnarounds i.e. Loading and unloading as opposed to port of call visits. As a result most passengers will be disembarking and gone by 9am or embarking and checking in by 1pm. No real benefit to the town except to the b&b operators like us
and the occasional taxi fare.

she didn't hide her face this time not like last weekend.
then lo and behold i was taking a shot of the model boats and i felt a tap on the shoulder, i turned round and there was a walking stick pointing at my face.
