I agree completely but who knows what the future will bring if the building is left to gradually rot.

I don't see that Burlington House is comparable with the Regent cinema; the former was to get it out of the way, whereas the latter is to retain it and take it back to what it once was.

Typical example here of people on social media thinking they can make accusations with no comeback. And this from a star on the telly.
Neil Stuke And there we are. At last. Transparency. A total bent council stitch up. Councillors offered the penthouses one would imagine. Genius! Took a long time but, there it is. Stitched up right royally. Local council ombudsman?

There retail sheds may not be beautiful but no Burlington House means I get sea glimpses from my ground floor flat in the winter anyway so I'm not complaininging.

Planning permission in. Up before Deal Town Council next month then DDC.
That's capitalism. Someone willing to put hand in pocket and try to provide a service. Hope it goes well. Not my money. More to the point NOT yours as a Council Tax payer.
All in spite of best efforts of 'Reopen the Regent' group who merely annoyed developers and made sure that if anyone Googled 'cinema in deal' the top of the search list would be a load of saddos standing outside the venue looking as though they were waiting for a Sunshine Bus saying he town was rubbish. THAT'S on the Internet forever whereas some of us have ben working to actually get things done (see Deal Pier).
Some of us have been talking to developer behind the scenes to see how he can move forward rather than getting our faces in the paper and ranting about what people 'need' rather than what he can supply.
Gonna miss DDC.
Interestingly Astor have already plans to provide cinematographic splendours for Deal.

I wish the Astor project well but doubt if World cinema/foreign language films would bring in much of an audience locally. I used to belong to the British film institute on the South Bank and they used to show them and with all the millions in their catchment area it was easy to fill seats.

Seriously (for once) Howard, and I know it's totally non-PC, since Charles Hawtree lived (and died) in Deal I suspect there would be a market for a post-modernist ironic almost permanent film-festival of the 31 Carry On films.
For less than the price of a London Cinema ticket non LGBTQQIAAP ** community persons could have a day away from the 'woke' bubble on HST1 and enjoy a bit of normality and enjoy proper pubs and good food and a walk down the (soon to be) Pier of the Year?
** For info I got this e-mail from KCC this week! FFS!
Please see below a wider definition of the initials contained in my KCC report last night
As I am discovering this is a difficult issue and only really brought to my attention as we do have in Deal Walmer and Sholden a number of per teen children who have been “officially” recognised as belonging to the LGBTQQIAAP community
L = Lesbian = Women who orientate to women sexually
G = Gay = Men who orientate to men sexually
B = Bi-sexual = Men / Women who are orientated to both Men & Women
T = Transsexual = The gender they most identify with differs from their birth gender
Q = Queer = Someone who does not want be specifically labelled. This is also used by the LGBTQQIAAP in an attempt to re gain the word from popular usage where it is mostly used as a form of abuse
Q = Questioning = A person exploring their own sexuality, attempting to find their own identification
I = Intersex = An individuals body is not definitive to that particular gender. This can have a physical manifestation as well as biological
A = Allies = Heterosexuals supporting LGBTQQIAAP issues
A = Asexual = Attracted to any gender or persuasion
P = Pan-sexual = Sexual attraction not based on any gender and may be fluid when it comes to identifying their own sexual identification
These descriptions are brief and if you wanted to find out more about this complex subject

In passing I have just received this e-mail today from the YHA with whom the mother of my children and myself have been voluntary (unpaid) wardens over the past years:-
Transgender training
We will shortly be issuing an online training module to you all about transgender guests and the checking in process. It would be great if you could complete this before your next volunteering week so you are up to date with current guidance. The joining instructions will be sent to you by email from Flow Hospitality Training rather than YHA so please do look out for it. The training will take around 20 minutes and there are no quiz questions at the end of the module.

I used to a member of the YHA when I was young, a great way of seeing a bit of our fair land on the cheap. I feel sure that today's yoof see things exactly the same and bringing in confusing gender (or non gender) politics will be of little interest to them.

Reg, it would appear that you are part of an oppressed minority, you need a 'community spokesperson'.
Doesn't matter that they might not be elected. Doesn't matter that they might not be representative. Loadsa funding around (in spite of 'austerity').
Quick Google - have you thought of moving to Lewisham? Are you small and/or faithful? £100,000 up for grabs ...

Still traumatised from the last time I went to Brighton and in all innocence tried to order a 'BLT Sandwich'. Nuff said?

Bob I suggest you start an MP&S group that us old codgers can all join, and apply for funding to build a community facility where we can go and indulge in our traditional pastimes. (Drinking beer, telling non-PC jokes, watching Ealing comedy films, etc.)

I see you're making new friends on there Bob, I wonder how many will support the new cinema, especially bearing in mind the Astor doing films at fairly low cost? The fact that Deal has been without a cinema for half a century and only in the last few years the cry has gone up for one doesn't bode well.

Good, but the accessibility issue for the disabled might have to be addressed.
I am surprised all those thousands of supporters quoted chose not to put their hands in their pockets, seems only 49 people really cared enough to dig deep.

Jan,
Was not at planning meeting and not really sure what disability access issues might be.
AFAIK all is on ground floor so any problems which might need ironing out should be minor.
Whilst the present frontal access under the 'dome' does indeed have steps I believe future access is envisaged from the Timeball Tower side so there should be no problem.
