What steps will be taken to ensure that local people get the chance of employment on this construction project
Will they be giving local firms contracts to do the work? ?
Will they be tying up with the ,local job shops to reduce local unemployment?
Maybe some of are counsellors and members connected to the project can answer some of these questions?.

I see that the contract for the new hospital at st-martins in Canterbury
Was given to a big London based construction firm, resulting in 95% of the construction workers travelling from London to do the work.
Local firms and workers cut out of the project,
Its down to the tendering process Keith , sealed bids etc

the developers will put out for tender and will simply look at the best offers, it is up to local contractors to put in competitive tenders.
if a company far away can do it cheaper than our local ones it doesn't say much for the latter.

And no provision in the biding to try to us local workforce ?
I believe that competition rules exclude that Keith , but I am sure that someone with more specialist knowlege will be along shortly

it is strange some of the bids that go in
but not to many real local geezers put in a bid
not sure how you can over a sealed bid
local jobs should come first

Blame the EU - I am sure most local authorities would like to just go out to a local company but the tender laws don't allow it !
Been nice knowing you :)

But do not the French government favour there contracts towards there own ,and Italians to
Are they not in the EU?
So we could see a situation that no local employment could cum from this project

..now come on Keith you must realise that the UK is the only EU member which keeps to the rules. Unfortunately we have created the jobs which enforce all the euro legislation. These people then have to be seen to be earning their money!

Same went for the Rail Link construction- I was working with about 20% locals-everyone else seemed to come from the Midlands upwards. With contingents from Ireland and S. Africa. I must say what a great bunch they were-I still keep in touch with some of them now. I know that I am a great supporter of localism but we should extend a welcome to the whole country.
How do we know that a contract in Wakefield would not employ workers from Dover District? Would you not condone that?

Not very green Richard to be shipping workers long distance, or family friendly

I do think it is not good practice that procurement for local councils (where ever they are) is not sent out just to local companies where possible - and relevant. You'd still have a valid tender-process, but keep the businesses and employment, here.
